•- THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, Jemmy 22, 1971 - 47 , Goldie Sher, 78, of Ironwood Goldie Sher, at 78 an active member- of the Jewish community of Ironwood, died Jan. 8. Among her survivors is a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Ida) Chaims of Detroit, whom Mrs. Sher visited frequently. Born in Lithuania, Mrs. Sher followed her husband David to Ironwood, where he and a brother made their home more than 50 years ago. Founder of Sher's Finer Foods, which continues to be a family business in_Ironwood, the late Mr. Sher also breeded horses. Working in the store until her death; Mrs. Sher was active in the small Ironwood community, its Temple Beth El and sisterhood, and Bnai Brith. Although only 10-15 Jewish families remain there,-Mrs. Sher managed to maintain kashrut in her home by obtaining meat from Duluth, and Mrs. Chaims said the Jewish National Fund blue- white box was kept full. Burial took place in the Jewish cemetery in Hurley, Wis. Surviving Mrs. Sher besides her daughter are three sons, Jacob and Dr. Harry, both of Ironwood, and Louis of St. Paul; eight grandchil- dren and seven great-grandchil- dren.
