Southfield Mayor Norman Feder appointed an arts committee a year ago with the idea of involving his city in the cultural life of the tri-county community. Sponsorship of the Feb. 4 concert is the largest project which the Southfield Arts Council has under. taken. Cantor Barkin, who with his wife moved here a little more than a Year ago from Washington, D.C., is a charter member of the South- field Arts Council and has been active in planning many musical events for the city. To emphasize the theme of the concert, the Arts Council has in- vited communications media and Shorts personalities who have contributed to the growth and reputation of the community to be guests for this special per- formance. They will be guests at . the champagne afterglow in the lower lobby, which is open to the public. In the main lobby there will be an exhibit by Southfield area artists. June 27-July 16 will be the date for the first session, for children entering 3rd through 6th grades in the fall. The second session, July 18-Aug. 13, is for children entering the 6th through 10th grades in the fall. There is a variety of activi- ties including sports, Sabbath programs, arts and crafts and nature lore. There are camper cabins, dining hall, recreation lodges, game room, arts and crafts building, health cabin, and hot shower buildings. There is a registered nurse on duty at all times, and a clinic in Chelsea is under contract to keep a doctor on call at all hours. Meals are prepared in accordance with Jewish dietary laws.
