Britain Urged to Consider Israel-Arab Arms Balance in Sale of Chieftain Tanks LONDON (JTA) — Three mem- bers of the House of Lords urged the government to take into con- sideration the interests of the North Atlantic Treaty Organiza- tion and the military balance be- tween Israel and the Arab states in its current negotiations for the sale of 50 Chieftan tanks to Libya. The matter of the tanks was brought up by the Earl of Cork, Lord Janner and Lord Shinwell. Replying for the government, Lord Lothian said the points raised were uppermost in the minds of the gov- ernment during the present ne- gotiations. He said he could not go into the matter further at this time beause discussions with the Libyans were in progress. Lord Janner said the govern- ment must bear in mind that Libya is entering into a federation with Egypt, the Sudan and Syria and has declared that she would use any tanks supplied to her against Israel. Lord Shinwell asked for assur- ances from the government that if Chieftans are supplied to Libya, Israel will also be provided with comparable equipment, inasmuch as tanks sold to Libya could well be transferred to Egypt. Genealogy: An account of one's descent from an ancestor who did not particularly care to trace his own. —Ambrose Bierce. 'Let's Talk About Jewish Holidays' Issued in time to be useful as a gift for Hanuka and for use in homes where there are children who should be instructed about our festivals, is a new Jonathan David volume, "Let's Talk About the Holidays." Dorothy Kripke wrote the Stories and the book is ably illustrated by Naama Kitov. Useful for all Jewish occasions, the volume covers all the festivals. It starts with Rosh Hashana and concudes with a fast day — Tisha b'Av. And it has an epilogue, "Which Only Means a Few Words Afterwards," in which the author makes the point that there is no such thing as a favorite holiday — that they are all meaningful and important. She concludes appropriately: "The Bible tells us, 'Be happy on your holiday!' And indeed, we are!" Thus it is not only Hanuka that is delightfully defined and the story told for joyous participation, but also the Holy Days, Sukot, Shavuot, Tu b'Shvat, and Pass- over and the Seder. And the author gives appropriate space to Israel Independence Day which she appropriately subtitles "A Dream Come True." Political Pressures on Israel Worry Golda TEL AVIV (JTA) — Premier Golda Meir told a Labor Party youth assembly that she was wor- ried if Israel had the fortitude to stand up to political pressures and not "lose in the political arena what was won on the battlefield:" Mrs. Meir did not elaborate on the causes of her concern although she appeared to be referring to recent developments. She said she never feared that Israel's soldiers would abandon the battlefield "but of late I have begun to worry whether we have the same strength to insist on matters which are essential to our :security."
