SPECIAL SUN. ONLY I

ROAST TURKEY with Dressing I

By Danny Raskin

THE OPENING OF "BALD" at
the Zodiac Theater on 12 Mile and
Northwestern, presented a new
concept in local theater . . . a se-
ries of clever satirical sketches
combined with some excellent mu-
sic and lyrics to make it a valid
musical comedy revue . . . Aside
from slight tinges of nervousness
that even the Barrymores en-
countered on openilfg nights, the
cast of five (three gals and two
guys) were good—real good, as
they moved the show along in
rapid pace . . . Their treatment of
-Mort Zieve's music and Rudy Si-
mon's lyrics were credits to the
talents of these two fine men .. .
Producers Henry Martin and Gene
Rosenberg have reason to be
proud of their latest presentation
. . . There are some instances
where prudish people who look at
reality with clouded glasses will
consider the language shocking
. . . but to the others, and thank
Heavens they are in the majority,
the controversial sequences of
"Bald" are real true life and
should be accepted as such . . .
Everyone should see "Bald" at
the Zodiac Theater . . . its well
written, well acted and extremely
clever.
RUMORS ARE THAT Bobby
Laurel, at the Moon for two more
weeks, will edge in a two-week en.
gagement on the Northwest be-

tween his busy recording
schedule.
FOLKS WHO HAVEN'T been
able to get into the Black Forest
yet, be patient . . . Tony Nestico
is getting the wrinkles out of the
new Royal Oak spot on Washing-
ton and 11 Mile Rd. . . . Remem-
ber, all good things come to those
who wait . . • and this includes
the Black Forest! . . .. The up-
stairs catering for up to 400 peo-

one . . The couple left so mad
they refused to leave a tip . . .
Coming out of the Fisher Theater,
he reached to take out his park-
ing ticket and there was the orig-
inal dinner check ... To the gent
. . . the place you and your wife
ate at charge their waitresses
with all unpaid tabs . . . So be-
sides losing out on a tip, the poor
girl lost out on two dinner
amounts, unless you go back like
a man and admit your mistake.

Foreign Ministry Unaware
of Any Soviet Overtures

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A foreign
ministry spokesman said that Is-
rael was unaware of any ap-
proaches from the Soviet Union to
resume diplomatic relations. He
was referring to reports to that
effect from Stockholm recently.
He said that in principle Israel
would like to renew diplomatic re-
lations with Russia, but the initia-
tive must come from Moscow which
broke off relations with Jerusalem
at the time of the June 1967 war.

Fine Italian-American Cuisine
Deliciously Prepared for the
Discerning Taste

NIGHT WAITRESSES at After-
glow Lounge on W. McNichols, 1/2
block west of Woodward . . . An-
nie Pelliccioni, Hazel Neace and
Carol Jones . . are a real good
trio for service excellence and
their many attributes make them
steady favorites for customer sat-
isfaction . . . Evening barmaids
Dolores Gonzalez and Janice Ed-
wards, and hostess -Jean Meyers
do their jobs with consistent ap-
peal . . . and a real nicety of all
these gals is that they know how
to smile.
FELLOW AND HIS WIFE went
to a local eatery, had dinner and,
asked for the check . . . The wait-
ress said she had put it on the ta-
ble . . . He argued so vehemently
that the girl just shrugged her
shoulder and gave him another

WARSAW — Sholem Aleichem's
"Tevye the Milkman" opened here
Dec. 4 in the new Jewish State
Theater, so modern that it moved
one viewer to comment during in-
termission: "How can they build
such a theater? They've destroyed
the Jewish community here and
now they build this."
The building on Grzybowski
Square was financed equally by
the government and by some Jew-
ish work cooperatives that share
the premises. Ida Kaminska, the
former director and star perform-
er of the theater, helped plan the
building, before leaving Poland.
Chewel Buzgan, who played
Tevye, was honored for his 50
years with the troupe. Although
the audience was provided with
running translations via transis-
torized earphones, half of them
enjoyed the performance without
such help.
