Art Buchwald is always fun.
Whenever he pokes fun at poli-
ticians he helps relieve the nation's
tensions. He is a variety writer,
and his newest book, "Counting
Sheep," attests to it.
The new book published by G.
P. Putnam's Sons has the added
merit of containing the full text
of his play, "Sheep on the Run-
way." It's hilarious, and the laughs
provided are as much for readers
as for playgoers.
Even in his comment on the
reviews Buchwald tickles the
reader when he starts out by
saying: "What a beautiful Bar
Mitzvah party! Everyone who
came seemed to like it. No mat-
ter what the critics say, I had
a wonderful time. So did my
father, my sisters and my wife."
That's how he celebrated the
staging of "Sheep on the Runway."
He starts with "The Log" and
therein he tells about the excite-
ments of writing a play, the expec-
tations, the difficulties, the chal-
lenges—all told in a mood to pro-
vide the fun the reader expects—
and gets—from a Buchwald book.

Israel's Citrus Export
to Offset Low Market

LONDON (JTA) — The citrus
market is depressed this year but
Israel nevertheless is exporting a
bigger crop to its West European
customers than last year, accord-
ing to Moshe Leven, European
general manager of the Israeli Cit-
rus Marketing Board.
Leven said Israel will have over
48,000,000 boxes of citrus fruits
available for export this season,
compared to 45,000,000 last year.
He said that up to now, the main
shipments have been grapefruit,
amounting to 1,650,000 cases as
compared to 1,300,000 cases at this
time last year.
He said that 460,000 cases of
grapefruit have already been
sold in consignment markets in
West Germany, Belgium, Holland
and the UK against 375,000 cases
last year. But this year's price Is
currently running five shillings
higher than last year. Leven
predicted that the price would
drop when Spanish fruit reaches
the market later in the season.
The price for Spanish oranges is
ten per cent lower this year than
last year and can drop as much as
30 per cent under last year's price
when the export season reaches its
peak after Christmas.

To You and Yours

Shopping Center Market

His first installment has been on
Detroit and is titled: "Detroit: A
Bustling Jewish Community."
After describing in the first half
of his story the political, social
and ethnic background of Metro-
politan Detroit, the correspondent
discusses the Jewish community
in the area. Following is a trans-
lation of the essence of this part
of the story:
". . . The 150,000 Jews are the
ethnically most active group. The
statement, 'The Jews are a nation
like any other nation only more so'
is more understandable watching
the intensive Jewish life here. As
one of the most distinguished Jew-
ish centers in America, the com-
munity maintains a first-class
weekly that brings news from Is-
rael, American Jewry and local
events. In a recent edition of The
Jewish News I found information
about lectures by Jewish authors
in connection with the annual
'Jewish Book Fair,' news about the
visit of Mrs. Meir in Canada and
about the expected visit of Abba
Eban to present a famous Reform
rabbi in Detroit with the Israeli
'Prime Minister Medal' . . .
"In addition to cultural programs
and classes given by the many
synagogues, from the Orthodox
Lubavitchers' and Young Israel to
the Reform ones, the community
maintains a Center with active
cultural and social programs:
Lectures . . . classes . . . Israeli
dances . . . library .. .
"Perhaps the most interesting
. . . is the Dexter-Davison Market.
This huge food market keeps mov-
ing with the Jewish community to
the Northwestern suburbs. It was
founded by Norman Collier, who
fought in Israel with the Jewish
Legion during the first World War,
