Jewish Lore for Deaf

CLEVELAND (JTA),— A young
Cleveland mother, herself the child
of deaf parents, has been teaching
Jewish religious lore for the past
two years to a Sunday school class

for deaf and hard-of-hearing chil-
dren and to a group similarly han-
dicapped adults who meet every
three weeks.
The courses are taught at the
Hebrew Academy, a day school, by
Mrs. Michael Rhodes. Mrs. Rhodes'
bearing is normal but she learned
sign language as a child and uses
this skill for the adult classes.
Sign language is not needed for
the children's class of five pupils
because deaf children now are rou-
tinely taught lip-reading,
