black man is the Jew in Egypt."
During the early years of the
American civil rights movement,
he said, Jews and blacks had been
close allies and that relationship
continues today despite those
detractors who would turn the
two groups against each other.
According to the civil rights
leader, the prejudice some blacks
harbor against Jews is not
nearly as widespread as some
would make out. "Blacks should
not forget that Jews are our
closest allies," concluded Rev.

Abernathy.

raising dinner at Raleigh House.

last week ... doting on his favorite
subject, natural hygiene, which
saved his life seven years ago

WHILE IN MISSOURI, recalls
ladies' wear salesman Julius
Grossman, he was held up in a
small town because heavy rains
had caused a washout on the rail-
road . . . "This looks like the big
flood," he observed to a waitress
in the local hotel ... "The what?"
she asked . . . "The big flood,
when Noah saved the animals on
the ark. You must have read about
that" . . . The waitress assured
him gravely, "Mister, on account
of all this rain, I ain't seen a
paper in four- days!"
550 WOMEN packed Raleigh
House for City of Hope Cancer
Fighters' Glamorama Luncheon
. . . with two attendees each
winning a $300 gown raffled at
the affair . . . Mary Tarnow and
Sylvia Krause . . . Traffic was
so heavy outside, that the
Raleigh House hat check gal was
late ... so Cancer Fighter mem-
ber Cathy Kershenbaum pitched
in and was deluged with coats
for over an hour ... Cathy did
such a good bit that Sammy
Lieberman offered her a job!
ABOUT TOWN . . . Herman
Goldman, Detroit Tiger program
director, has joined the select cir-
cle of first-time doting grampas
with David Scott, born to son Jules
and wife Jill ... Name David sort

at Investors Diversified . . .
Seymour Rich decided to sur-
prise his sister and brother-in-law,
Sally and Joe Kenner, by shovel-
ing and clearing ice and snow
away from their new Southfield
home . . . later discovering he had
done a beautiful three-hour job
on the grounds of their next door
neighbors who were in Florida!
. . . Dorothy Shifman asked a
little girl what she was going to
do when she was as big as her
mother . . . and the child replied,
"Diet"
