A former president of Sinai Hospital Women's Guild and two former departmental chiefs were honored at the 18th annual meet- ing of Sinai Hospital last week in the hospital's Zuckerman Audi- torium. They are Mrs. Isadore W. Winkelman, who served as presi- dent of the Women's Guild from 1968 to 1970; Dr. Samuel S. Bern- stein. chief of pediatrics from 1953 to 1970; and Dr. Milton L. The three were presented en- graved bronze medals by Morris Garvett, president of the hospital, in recognition of their "distin- guished service to the hospital and the community." Mrs. Winkelman was cited for her "extreme dedication and gen- uine concern for the welfare of others" during her two years as guild president. "The guild un- der her leader- ship was truly a credit to the hospital, and she, personally, was an inspira- tion to many," Garvett said. Mrs. Winkelman Mrs. Winkelman began her as- sociation with Sinai's predecessor, the North End Clinic, as a medi- cal social worker and was the founding administrative secretary of the guild. She also served as dren's Hospital and the Detroit Orthopedic Center. When he stepped down as Sinai's chief of pediatrics earlier this year, he assumed the rank of senior attending physician. "Under his leadership, the de- partment developed an outstand- ing rotation system so that future surgeons would be trained in all the major services," he said. "He also stressed the importance of individual research projects on the part of the resident staff." Dr. Sorock was instrumental, Garvett said, in planning the new operating suite which will become part of the Max -M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Patient Care Wing, which will open next year.
