U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater
of Arizona, the 1964 Republican
candidate for President, affirmed,
in an address at Bnai Moshe Mon-
day night, that Israel must re-
ceive all the help she needs from
the United States in retaining her
right to live.
He expressed tthe view that
Israel should not abandon territo-
ries gained in the 1967 Six-Day
War.
Speaking on major issues con-
fronting the American people, and
on a variety of world problems,
Senator Goldwater devoted a ma-
jor portion of his address to the
situations affecting Israel.
Conceding that peace Is re-
mote, he said he has felt that
prejudice stands in the way, that
once bigotries are abandoned,
there win be a chance for aban-
donment of arms races and for
amity among nations.
He was deeply concerned about
the Russian position and warned

superiority in the Mediterranean
in the building of atomic sub-
marines and in the large-scale
production of naval vessels which
will be newer and more numerous
by the end of next year than those
of the United States.
It is the Russian threat, Sen.
Goldwater said, that stands in the
way of accord in the Middle East.
On the question of the arms race
he said that "if we give up to peo-
ple who wish to replace us in lead-
ership" the U. S. will lose its
status in the world.

ent conflict, he said that the Mid-
dle East is the only place where
it could emerge on a large scale.
But he also saw the possibility of
Red China's aggressiveness in the
conflicts and under such conditions
he saw the U. S. fighting on the
side of the Soviet Union "against
the common enemy."
Describing his visit in Israel
he said he had reported to Presi-
dent Eisenhower on the devotion
and alertness of the Israelis
whose role be likened to that of
the early American pioneers.
