Name 8 Allied Campaign Vice-Chairmen

Eight prominent Detroiters
whose names have been linked
with various philanthropic endea-
vors within the Jewish community
will serve as vice-chairmen of the
1971 Allied Jewish Campaign-Israel
Emergency Fund, Meyer M. Fish-
man and Maxwell Shaye, chair-
men, announce.
They are Louis C. Blumberg,
David Randleman, Paul M. Han-
dleman, Arthur Howard, Barney L.
Keywell, Edward C. Levy, Abe
Shiffman and A. Alfred Taubman.
Blumberg is currently vice chair-
man of the Detroit Service Group,
a director of Sinai Hospital, the
Morris Adler Foundation, and a
member of the health and welfare
division of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration. He was a member of the
campaign cabinet for several years
and served as vice chairman of the
1970 drive.

David Handleman was a mem-
ber of the campaign cabinet last
year and is a member of the capi-
tal needs committee of the Federa-
tion.
Paul Handleman has served the
Jewish community in many ca-
pacities both here and in Cleve-
land. He is a director of Detroit
Service Group and United Jewish
Charities and a member of the
board of governors of Federation.
He served the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign as a member of the cabinet
in the last four annual drives.

Howard

Howard Is former c h a i r-
man of the real estate division,
was pre-campaign chairman in
1965, a cabinet member in 1966,
and a vice president since 1967.
He is a vice president of the De-
troit Service Group, a board mem-
ber of the Jewish Home for the
Aged and Federation and a mem-
ber of the real estate committee
of United Jewish Charities.
Keywell is currently a member
of the board of governors of Fed.

Nixon Asks $500,000 Aid for Israel

President Nixon's request for an additionalliillion dollars in foreign
aid includes 6500,000 in military aid to Israel.
Both houses of Congress had already endorsed such aid in bills
that were adopted overwhelmingly in August.
Congressional approval now is needed to assure such aid, mostly
in long-term credit to assist Israel to retain a position of security in
the Middle East.

Services Appeal Mounts in Intensity

With a goal of $258,000 for the Detroit area, Bnal Brith volun-
teers of 25 lodges and 26 chapters are seeking to meet the increased
need for funds. Bnai Brith serves the youth at colleges and univer-

sities through its Hillel Foundations, through its youth organizations
and its vocational services. Leaders (from left) are Paul Perry, cam-

Levy is a member of the
board of Federation and a
director of the Detroit Service
Group, Jewish Home for the Aged,
Sinai Hospital, and United Jewish
Charities. He was a member of
the campaign cabinet in 1966 and
1967 and has been a vicet chair-
man of the Allied Jewish Campaign
since 1968.
Shiffman has been a vice-
chairman of the Allied Jewish
Campaign since 1969. He is a di-
rector of the Detroit Service
Group, Sinai Hospital, United Jew-
ish Charities and the Shiffman
Clinic. He was the major con-
tributor for the construction of the
clinic which is affiliated with Sinai
Hospital, and also for the con-
struction of a high school outside
of Haifa and the Vera Parshall
Shiffman Medical Library at
Wayne State University.
Taubman served as pre-cam-
paign chairman in 1963 and 1964,
and prior to that was chairman of
the real estate division. He has
been a vice chairman of the cam-
paign since 1965, and is a member
of the board of Detroit Service
Group.
