Senior Friendship Club
Installs Herman Acker

The Senior Friendship Club of
the Flint Jewish Community Coun-
cil, at a ceremony in Temple Beth
El, installed Herman Acker as
president. Other officers are vice
Presidents, Mrs. Belle Frankel and
Joe Laro; secretaries, Mrs. Eva
Fisher and Mrs. Lena Alexander;
and program chairman, Israel
Sendler.
Mr. Sendler is to be honored by
the Jewish National Fund for his
service on its behalf.

Basketball Teams Begin

The Flint Jewish Community
Council will again sponsor three
basketball teams this year: men's
team for age 18 and older; senior
boys' team for ages 15-17; and in-
termediate boys' team for age 14
and under. Anyone wishing to par-
ticipate may contact Carl Rittman,
youth adviser, 232-7516.

the country where this voluntary
program has been successfully es-
tablished. There is no pain in-
volved, and donating a pint of blood
will take less than an hour, Mrs.
Mittleman said.

Maurice Glaser, part-time cantor
at Temple Emanuel for 33 years
who is currently on leave for health
reasons, was featured in a lengthy
article in the local Grand Rapids
paper.
Glaser, 60, an insurance agent,
has chanted the Sabbath services
on Friday evenings as well as the
holiday liturgy. A native of New
York, Glaser was brought to Grand
Rapids at age 3. He won a voice
scholarship to Western Michigan
University, where he also learned
the cantorial chants under Rabbi
Philip Waterman in Kalamazoo.
He and his wife Leah, who are
planning their first trip to Israel
in February, own a 100-acre farm
in Ada Township.
Asher Moss, a former Detroiter
who graduated from Central High
School, is acting as Emanuel can-
tor while Glaser is on leave.
