LISTENING

ART RABIN STILL tells of pick-
ing up a passenger in his cab who,
upon reaching his destination, said
he had left his money in the hotel
. Having already been swindled
three times before by others using
this type of maneuver, Art said,
"Now look mister, either come up
with the fare or I'm calling the
nearest cop!" ... The man insisted
he was telling the truth . said
he was in a rush to ful an appoint-
ment . .. and would have the
money sent. . " "I felt like knock-
ing out a few "bucks worth of his
teeth! Finally, I went with him. He
got the money, plus a 10-spot for
my troubles. Well, that night I
said prayers of thanks for con-
trolling my temper. The guy turns
out to be Jack Dempsey!" -
A MOST DESERVING GUY is
being honored by his Craftsman
Masonic Lodge . People that
know Jack Kaufman, and old
friends of his from 40 and 50 years
ago around Watson and Hastings
and after, come forth . . . Percy
Swartz, 55-year friend of Jack, will
be toastmaster of the event set
for Nov. 20 at Carl's Chop House
. Call Percy at 1.0 7-9833 during
the day, or at 354 - 40115.
THEATRICAL AGENT Seymour
Schwartz tells the story about his
wife, Hattie, who dreamed one
night about a wedding invitation
being printed in reverse ... She
was afraid the party would be over
before the ceremony started!
MAID IN GOOD STANDING of
Eleanor and Ed Fogel gave notice
that she was leaving . . . and when
Eleanor asked her whether it was
to better herself, she replied, "Oh,
no, ma'am. I just want to get
married."
SAM GREENBERG, who is
beading the efforts el the Metro-
politan Caswell of Baal Rd& for
the Allied Jewish Campaign-
Israel Emergency Fund this
year, has devised a "charity ,
jackpot" for Baal Ed* howling/
leagues .. The way it worlorls
that every bowler enters the
jackpot for $1, and the winner
takes half the money . . . The
other half is a esntribution to
the Allied Jewish Gammas:a-
lbum' Emergency Fand • Five
leagues participated last year
and a total of 0,380 was raised
for Israel . ' . The plan has the
blessings of Alan Nathan, chair-
man of the Metropolitan Division
of the Campaign . .. Sam says
that he will be happy to help in
setting up the jackpot for any
league if they will get in touch
with him at 272-4375.
BUYING A LITTLE something
last week at J. I,. Hudson's for
wife Lee's birthday, Joe Lesser
was asked if it was a surprise .. .
"I'll say it is," said Joe. "She's

expecting a fur coat"
SIGN SPOTTED BY Iry Feld-
man of Livernois-Davison Florists

ing flowers from any but their own
