Rabbi Fram, dean of the Michigan rab- binate, is founder of Temple Israel. LOUIS (JTA) — Herman Edelsberg, director of Bnai Brith's International Council, asserted that when President Nixon "blew the whistle" on Egyptian missile viola- tions in the Suez Canal zone, the Soviet Union was "jolted" because it had thought that the United States was "so committed to the continuation of Middle East peace talks during a national election that it would have to swallow the provocation." Addressing Jewish leaders at a conference sponsored by the BIBC and the Jewish Community Rela- tions Council of St. Louis, Edels- berg praised President Nixon for his "forthright response" to the missile challenge. Pittsburgh Hillel Starts Draft Counseling, Classes PITTSBURGH (JTA)—The first draft counseling service under Jewish auspices in Pittsburgh. a Free University of Judaism and a projected student newspaper are among the new projects organized for the current school year by the Hillel Foundation here, the latest agency to affiliate with the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh. The Hillel Foundation provides legal counsel and a social worker to consult with Jewish students, on their options in regard to the draft, according to Rabbi Boris Rackosky, the foundation's new executive di- rector. The Free University currently offers courses in Hebrew mysti- cism, contemporary Jewish iden- tity, Jewish laws and customs, con- cepts of Talmud, a century of Jewish revolution, as well as class- es in the prayerbook, Bible, proph- ets and modern Hebrew literature.
