National Council of Jewish Women
Enables 2nd Semester of 'Sesame Street'

National Council of Jewish Wo-
men, one of the first organizations
in the nation to endorse and help
develop utilization of the program
"Sesame Street" last season, has
again pledged its financial and
community service assistance for
"Sesame Street," whose "second
semester" begins Monday on
Channel 56. -
Channel 56 general manager
James Christianson said the
Greater Detroit Section, NCJW,
contributed $5,000 and renetVed its
participation with Channel 56 in
promoting maximum utilization of
the program by parents and teach-
ers of pre-school age children in
the greater Detroit area.

dent, said dozens of local NCJW
members will be Involved in
efforts with Channel 56 and the
program producers, Children's
Television Workshop, to reach the
optimum number of the area's
nearly 300,6116 children between
age 3 and 5, especially those in
inner-city neighborhoods.
Coordinating the council's efforts
will be Mrs. Jerome Sonenklar,
vice president of community
service.
Council members will work in
conjunction with "Sesame Street's"
Detroit utilization coordinator,
Richard Smith.
To encourage regular viewing of
"Sesame Street," especially among
disadvantaged children, the coun-
cil will help distribute to selected
communities, copies of the new
publication, Sesame Street Maga-
zine. There will be four editions of
the full-color magazine, and each
will contain information for both
parents and children about each
of the 145 new, hour-long color pro-
grams.

Bar Mitzva

Seminars

the committee for the annual Bal-
four Concert of the Zionist Organi-
zation of Detroit, announced this
week that the enthusiastic response
to the call for support of local and
Israel Zionist projects assures a
sellout for the event to be held at
Ford Auditorium on Nov. 22.
This year's concert will feature
Richard Tucker as guest artist,
with Pierre Hetu directing the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Greenberg ascribed the
record-breaking response to this
year's concert to the recognition of
the numerous important Israeli
needs to be aided by the proceeds
—the assistance that will go to the
Kfar Silver Agricultural School,
the support for ZOA House in Tel
Aviv and the cultural and Israel
defense programs in this country.
Dr. Joel Hamburger, ZOD presi-
dent, joined with Dr. Greenberg in
the call to the community for un-
stinted support of important efforts
in support of Israel and in ad-
vancing the Zionist cause.
Assisting Dr. Greenberg as co-
chairmen of the Balfour Concert
committee are Mrs. Ira G. Kauf-
man, Dr. Sanford Bennett and Dr.
George Dean. Abraham Borman is
chairman of the sponsors commit-
tee.
Remaining seats for the concert
may be ordered by calling the
ZOA Cultural Center, 18451 W.
