We are rhareed with the survival of Is- rael's People. In selecting Mr. Fish- man and Mr. Shaye to bead this monumental effort, we are choos- ing two of our outstanding leaders. These men have helped bring the Allied Jewish Campaign to its present high level through their years of fund-raising effort. Our community is looking to them to lead it in the largest campaign Detroit has ever seen." Fislunan Is president of Star Steel and Sapp y. Company, Sesthbeid. "This 1971 Campaign year is con- sidered so critical that the State of Israel has taken the unprecedented step of asking all Israel-based or- ganizations to stop or limit all fund-raising for the year 1971. "World Jewry is asked to assume the entire respon•ihnity_uut just part—of taking care of the 50,000 immigrants expected this year from Eastern Europe, France, Iran and dozens of other countries as well as the tens of thousands of, former refugees who still need help. With almost nothing available from Israel taxes, we will have to take care of the home front" Fishman and Shaye went on to say that the amount needed from American Jews in 1971 will be-dou- ble the amount raised in 1970, and they declared: "Doubling our giv- ing may begin to mean a sacrifice to some of us. So be it. To all of us in these most critical days of LsTael; their 'Survival (requires sacrificial giving).'
