JWB Publicist Postal Retires

NEW YORK — Bernard Postal,
dean of Jewish public relations
practitioners, is retiring as direc-
tor of public information of the
National Jewish Welfare Board
after nearly 25 years of service.
He is also retiring as editor of the
JWB Circle, which he founded in
1946 and has edited ever since.
After retirement, Postal will be-
come associate editor of the Jew-
ish Week American Examiner, in
New York, just purchased by Phil-
ip Hochstein, for many years sen-
ior editor of the Newhouse News-
papers, and now publisher of Jew-
ish Week, Washington, D.C.
Journalist, editor, author, lec-
turer and publicist, Postal has
been identified with Jewish jour-
nalism and Jewish communal life
for more than 40 years. A former
editor-in-chief of the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency, one-time manag-
ing editor of Seven Arts Feature

BERNARD POSTAL

Syndicate, he was the first editor
of the Jewish Standard of Jersey
City.
In 1938, Postal became national
director of public relations of Bnai
Brith. Eight years later he joined
the staff of JWB.
Founder and editor of the Jew-
ish Digest, Postal is the co-author
of seven books.
During the American Jewish
Tercentenary he was honored by
the Jewish Book Council of Amer-
ica and the American Jewish Ter-
centenary Commission for his con-
tributions to American Jewish his-
tory.
