Louis Levine Is Farband Head

At the recent annual Farband
City Conference, Louis Levine was
elected president for 1970-71.
Other officers are:
Ben Harold and Philip Imber,
vice presidents; Movsas Goldoftas,
secretary; Harry Goldbaum, treas-
urer; Aaron Kutnik, Adele Mon-
dry and Bessie Berris, cultural
chairmen; Mr. and Mrs. Israel
Weisman, Harry Norber and Sam
Porbier, organization chairmen;
Mrs. Movsas Goldoftas, Jewish
National Fund and Israel Bond

The conference re-elected Jo-
seph Katz honorary president for
his service as president of Farband
for the last three years. Harry
Schumer greeted the conference.

the general executive from New

The conference honored Moisbe
and Sarah Friedman for their cul-
tural work in the community and
to the Herzliya Teachers' Seminary
in New York.
With the Farband convention
scheduled for May, the conference
-decided to increase the organiza-
tion and to enroll 100 new mem-
bers.

Prof. S.N. Eisenstadt of Hebrew
University will speak on "Trans-
formations in a Revolutionary So-
ciety: the Case of Israel" 8 p.m.
Thursday in the Gold Room, Oak-
land Center, Oakland University.
Prof. Eisenstadt received his
MA and PhD degrees from He-
brew University and has been a
visiting professor in sociology at
Harvard, Chicago and presently at
the University of Michigan. Among
his many publications are "From
Generation to Generation" and
"The Political System of Empires."
He has recently published a book
on "Israeli Society," (Basic Books
1968).
According to Nahum Medalia,
chairman of the department of so-
ciology-anthropology at Oakland
University, in "From Generation
to Generation" (1956) Dr. Eisen-
stadt was the first sociologist to
address himself systematically to
the problem popularized many
years later as the "Generation
Gap." He is considered an expert
on youth society, sociology of in-
tellectuals, Political Sociology and
comparative social institutions.
The public is invited to the lec-
ture.

of the Israel Defense Forces, will
be guest speaker. Dr. Plotkin- was
the first Israeli to be admitted to

Princeton University.
