Pictures must not be too pictur-
esque. —Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The music is over . . . but the
melody lingers on and on and on ...
with heartfelt thanks to everyone
who graciously attended my testi-
monial . . . As my mother Minnie
Raskin said, "A night to remem-
ber." . . . Much gratitude to the
testimonial committee who worked
so diligently to make the affair
such a booming success . . . Goldie
Young, who tied all the ends to-
gether to take care of the insur-
mountable task of putting people at
the banquet tables . . . and who,
with Beverly Benderoff, wrote the
lyrics of a song to me from the
City of Hope Cancer Fighters - .
Evelyn Lewis, who worked with
Goldie and also took care of all
mailing for the affair . . . sister
Lillian Rosen, who "kept the
books." ... Hy Lewis, who coordi-
nated the dinner with brother Mar-
vin Raskin . . .
Percy Swartz, for his photogra-
phy supreme during the entire eve-
ning . . . Sam Evans and Bennie
Schecter of Displays Unlimited,
who put my name in lights with
a fabulous marquee setup enter-
ing the hors d'oeuvres and cock-
tails room, and a gorgeous -bal-
loon burst centerpiece at each
table in the banquet room ... Max
Sosin, Sammy Woolf and Hal Gor-
don for their grand efforts on the
committee since its inceptiom, and
their as usual very wonderful en-
tertaining at the dinner-dance . . .
Dr. Jack Jackman and his magnifi-
cent redition of a most beautiful
invocation . . . Sol Lewis, whose
lifeliong friendship brought words
of touching ,humility in his -prim-
entation of a plaque to me.
Drs. Harry and Lou Woll, Sam
Geller, Mannie Mackie. Sam
Schwartz, Jimmy Rachleff, Michael
Goodman, James Saperstein, Moe
Miller, Milt Hubert, Michael Alter,
who also was first in announcing
his contribution of $500 in my
name to mentally retarded . . . and
of course to Sammy Lieberman,
bossman at the Raleigh House. for
his excellent cooperation in helping
the over 400 guys 'n gals have a
good time . . . to Fifi D'Orsay,
"Saucy Sylvia" Stoun, Turk Pru-
jansky, Mayors Joe Forbes and
Norm Feder, Barbara Paul, Eddie
Jerome, all the guys in Hal Gor-
don's band . . - everybody . .
thank you for the beautiful engrav-
ing on my heart! ,
First movie ever completely
filmed in San Diego has been prod-
uced by Harvey Levett, son-in-law
of former Detroiters Ruth and
Bernie Berman, married \ three
years to their daughter, Noreen...
Name of the film is "Captaiislitilk-
shake," being premiered Nov. 10
in San Diego.
At the opening concert of the
31st season of the Center Sym-
phony Orchestra, under the direc-
tion of Julius Chajes, Joe Buono,
the 1st French horn player, noticed
that his music to Weber's Overture
"Freischuetz" was missing . . .
Julius was ready to announce
an hour delay of the concert in
order to get another copy of the
music, when Joe said, 'TB play it
from memory" . . . which he did to
the amazement of all the other or-
chestra musicians! '
At the botuie-warming party
given by Sally and Rudolph Spilt-
zer, their young daughter, Shirley
Mae, told her mother that she
wanted to whisper something . . .
"Darling," said -Sally, "big girls
that are nearly five never whisper
before company" ... to which lit-
tle Shirley Mae replied, "All right
then, but that man over there took
another piece of cake when you
weren't looking."
