Visits were made on Hol Hamoed Sukot with a new sukamobile, a converted bookmobile. The women of the cooperating sisterhoods served a snack in the suka to each of the residents and assisted in bringing the hoilday of Tabernacles to the aged, who are isolated and separated from their families and synagogues at this festive time. The nursing home residents are invited out into the auks parked in front of the nursing home where, in addition to eating refreshments served by the sisterhood women, the residents say the blessing over the lulav and esrog. Volunteers are trained and supervised by a staff member of JFCS to conduct these holidaY programs and also to Participate in the continuing visiting pro- grams. In the old days there was almost no celebration, of "simha" without a representative of the herring family. Herring sal- ad ranks as one of the most favo- rite. You can serve it with other salads, such as potato salad and green salad and you can have an "instant party." Or, spread it over small rounds of bread and you can serve tasty canapes. And, of course, you can serve it as a first course or an appetizer. Eight ounces schmaltz herring fil- lets 2 hard cooked eggs 1/2 cup grated onion Vs cup vinegar 2 14 cup fine dry bread crumbs crumbs 2 tbIsp. peanut oil 1 thisp. sugar 1 tart crisp apple-grated (optional) 1.
