Like many tourists, Sidney H.
Elman, back from his vacation in
Mexico, wondered why Mexican
peons always ride on burros while
their wives walk along behind .
Finally, Sidney stopped a peasant
and asked him the reason . . . The
Mexican, looking very surprised,
replied, "But Senor, my wife
doesn't own a burro."
The Raleigh House and Sammy
Lieberman will break ground prob-
ably in February on a 12-story
hotel next to the great catering
spot . . The new hotel will also
include a beautiful restaurant and
cocktail lounge . .. Inside info is
that it will be exactly what folks
have been hoping f o r

Sam Geller tells of a conver-
sation with a few business ac-
quaintances . . . They were
talking in the high bracket of
the dollar sign and Sam kibit-
singly asked one of the fellows,
"If I show you how to - make a
half-million dollars, will you give
me half?" ... The gent thought
a minute, rubbed his chin, and
seriously asked, "Why should I
give you half?"

They call him "The Canary
Man," but former Darby bartender
Tommy Chadwick, ace mixologist
now at Angel's Hour Glass on W.
McNichols, and wife Andrea, also
have two dogs and a monkey . . .
plus four children . . . to go along
with the 200 canaries flying inside
and out their home behind Sinai
Hospital on Robson . . . If you ask
Tommy, "What's new?" he'll either
give you a dirty look or answer,
"Nothing much, just another
canary!"
Something extremely different
. and most interesting is the
"Outer and Inner Space" lecture
by Michigan Metaphysical Society,
7:30, Oct. 23, at Veteran's Memo-
rial Building, Jefferson at Wood-
ward . . . Lecturers Sol Lewis and

Baird Wallace are both highly con-
versant in their respective fields,

it . . ."Read the policy," he in-
sisted. "All our company engages
to do is build you another barn
exactly like the one that's been
destroyed." . The farmer, apop-
lectic with rage, thundered, "If
that's the way you varmints do
