monthly program meeting 8 p.m.
Monday at Bnai David Synagogue.
Two members of Bnai Brith Youth
will narrate slides of a recent pil-
grimage to Israel. Lodge families
are invited.

IVAN S. BLOCH CHAPTER is
holding a fund-raising benefit art
auction 9 p.m. Oct. 24, at the
Northland Inn. The exhibit, starting
at 7:30 will include original oil
paintings, water colors, drawings,
lithographs, wood cuts, etchings
and gouaches. Among the featured
artists are Miro, Friedlaender,
Chagall, Picasso, Dali, Lebadang
and Braque. Al Berlin is commit-
tee head.

EINSTEIN CHAPTER will meet
8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zionist
Cultural_ Center. A fur fashion
show, including classical and con-
temporary fun furs will be fea-
tured. Mrs. Irene Rodman will
speak on the Bnai Brith youth ser-
vices appeaL Guests are invited.

Joseph L. Hudson Jr., president
of the J.L. Hudson Co., has been
named recipient of the National
Bnai Brith Humanitarian Award.
The award will be presented at a
dinner on behalf of the Bnai Brith
Youth Services Dec. 6 at the De-
troit Hilton.
The $100-a-plate dinner will help
to carry on the largest youth-serv-
ing program in the world through
Bnai Brith Hillel Foundations at
universities, the Bnai Brith Youth
Organizations and the Bnai Brith
Vocational Services helpng over
200,000 young people on college
campuses and in high schools
throughout America.
In announcing the award, Irwin
I. Cohn, chairman of the dinner
committee, said that "Mr. Hud-
son's work, his vision and leader-
ship in the civic, social and econ.
omic life of our nation, and his
keen sense of community responsi-
bility for serving the needs of peo-
ple everywhere, exemplify the best
in American tradition."
Previous recipients of the Bnai
Brith Humanitarian Award have
included Chief Justice Earl War-
ren, David Ben-Gurion, Bernard
Baruch, General David Samoff
and former Ambassador Philip M.
Klutznick.
Hudson is the first Detroiter to
receive this award. He was named
winner of the 1960 Detroit Junior

The traditional kick off meeting
to officially start the Bnai Brith
Youth Services Appeal is schedul-
ed for 8:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Cong.
Bnai David.
This is to be the third consecu-
tive year of direct solicitation,
a person-to-person appeal for funds
to meet the combined goal of $250,-
000.

Service Award" as Outstanding
Young Man of the Year.
In 1968, he received the Lay-
Men's Special Civic Leadership
Award presented by the Metropo-
litan Detroit Council of Churches.
Max M. Fisher will serve as
honorary chairman for the dinner.
Fisher is a national commissioner
of the Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tions.
Louis Weber is Bnai Brith Serv-
ices Appeal chairman for special
gifts.

WASHINGTON—An Israeli first-
day stamp cover honoring New
York City's Shearith Israel Syna-
gogue is available in limited sup-
ply from Bnai Brith.
The 60-agorot stamp, depicting
the late 19th Century edifice
against a gold background, is one
in a series of five Israeli stamps
paying tribute to the world's fa-
mous synagogues.
Shearith Israel is the oldest con-
gregation in America, founded in
1654 by 23 Portuguese Jews who
had fled persecution-in Brazil.
