Cash for—Israel COLLEGE PARK, Md.—A cam- pus rally at the University of Maryland, called to protest against any American military interven- tion during the brief and bloody civil war in Jordan, turned into a victory for the United Jewish Ap- peal. The anti-Israel demonstration, sponsored by Democratic Radicals at the University of Maryland (DRUM), turned into a fiasco when some 75 Jewish students or- ganized by the school's Hillel Foundation showed up with Israeli flags and boxes for UJA contri- butions. • The rally sponsors had aban- doned the topic and shifted to the now-familiar theme of "Israel imperialism, third-world unity and Arab socialism." The Hillel group, moving among the crowd, argued down the rhe- toric of the speakers, called for U.S. military aid to Israel and asked — and got — dollar bills and coins for UJA.
