expression the individual expresses
his belief in the "immortality of
the soul" when he thinks of the
cemetery. The grave is thus not
the end of man's existence — but
rather a sign that man has found
his place in eternity and now be-
comes immortal. In this same vein
of thought, the cemetery is called
"Beth ha-Hayylm," i.e., the House
of Life, indicating that those who
lie there are not dead but living
in a different sense of the word.
