Plans for the fourth annual Heart of Gold award luncheon of
United Foundation are being made by Mrs. Irving Burton, of Huntington
Woods, representing the Founders' Society of the Detroit Institute of
Arts; Mrs. Henry Berris of Birmingham, League of Jewish Women's
Organizations; Mrs. Isadore Winkelman, Jewish Welfare Federation
Women's Division; and Mrs. Aaron H. Gershenson, newly named
chairman of the award council. Some 40 women's organizations com-
prise the Heart of Gold Award Council which annually honors outstand-
ing women volunteers in the Wayne-Oakland-Macomb area. Working in
cooperation with Women for the United Foundation (WUF), the council
has scheduled its 1971 ceremony for Feb. 9 in Cobo Hall. The 21-year-old
Texas beauty judged fairest in the land at the recent Miss America
pageant will come to Detroit Oct. 12 to launch the 1970 Torch Drive.
Brunet Phyllis George, Miss America for 1971, will light Detroit's
sleek, new torch of contemporary design rising from the median strip
at the foot of Woodward Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Snow of Addison Ave., Southfield, were
hosts to family and friends Sept. 25-26 at the Bar Mitzva celebration
of their son David Uri at the Promenade Hotel, Long Beach, N.Y.
Guests were from West Hartford, Conn., and Elizabeth, N.J., as well
as the greater New York and Detroit areas.
At the recent Silver-Kazdan wedding at Cong. Shaarey Zedek,
out-of-town guests included Dr. and Mrs. Albert Schwartz of Utica,
N.Y., Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sturman of Albany, Mr. Daryl Toles
of Churchbridge, Sask., Miss Christine Walsh of Lower Hutt, New
Zealand, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Grant of Boston and Mr. and Mrs.
Stephen Adams of Kingston, Ont.

Mrs. Simon Sauter of Windsor and her daughter, Mrs. Harry T.
Golden (Sara-Gail Lewis) of Fairmont, W. Va., recently returned from
Houston, where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Moser and family.
Mrs. Moser is the former Harriet Ann Lewis. She and her sister had
not seen each other for 17 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kosins of St. James Ct., Birmingham, were
honored- at a surprise 25th anniversary party •given by their friends,
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Kahidon of Winchester Dr., Southfield. Family
and friends attended. -
Mr. and Mrs. Zelig Handelsman of Oxley Rd., Southfield, gave a
party at Town and Country Club recently . honoring the engagement
of their daughter Shelly to Lowell Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Schnitz of McKinney Dr., Franklin Village.

Dr. Kazis, rabbi of Cong. Beth
Israel, Worcester, Mass., since
1956, is a graduate of Boston Uni-
versity and was ordained by the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America. He is a leader of the
Rabbinical Assembly of America,
and of the Massachusetts Board of
Rabbis, president of the Worcester
Interfaith Housing Corporation,
and served . on the board of the
Mental Health Association.
Joey Russell will be the guest
star.
The Shalom Award will be pre-
sented to Rabbi Gorrelick for his
many years of effort on behalf of
Israel and the Israel Bond cause,
with which he has been identified
since the initiation of the Israel,
Bond campaign 20 years ago.
Among those participating in the
dinner program will be Rabbi Mil-
ton Arm of Beth Achim, Cantor
Simon Bermanis, President Silver-
man and Norman Allan, co-chair-
man of the Israel Bond Congre-
gational and High Holy Day ,Coun-
cil. William I. Liberson, a former
president of Beth Aaron, will be
toastmaster.
Ticket chairmen are Dr. Manuel
Feldman and Max Nosanchuk.
David Silver is the coordinator.

The Sholem Aleichem Institute
will hold a dinner-dance at the

(Mike) Zeltzer, who has served

Zeltzer as president of the institute,
