Jewish Students, Faculty Excused
From Classes on Rosh Hashana

Jewish students at Wayne State
University were excused from
classes to observe Rosh Hashana
Thursday and today, at the begin-
ning of the fall quarter.
In making the announcement,
Dr. Ali B. Cambel, executive vice
president for academic affairs,
said he requested faculty members
to assist absent students in making
up any important work that was
assigned during the two-day class
period.
To further facilitate Jewish stu-
dents, Dr. Cambel said steps were
taken to approve changes of elec-
tion in classes on Wednesday, the
day preceding Rosh Hashana.

Jewish College Students will ex-
plore "International Piracy" at its
next discussion group meeting 8
p.m. Thursday at the Jewish Cen-
ter.

The group's originally scheduled
Camp Tamarack weekend has been
postponed till spring to allow for
more complete planning, it was
announced.

Conduct Services

High Holy Day Services are be-
ing conducted by students under
the auspices of the Bnai Brith
lel Foundation on Rosh Hashana
and Yom Kippur.
Orthodox services take place at
the Hillel Foundation, 1429 Hill.
The ballroom of the Michigan
Union is the location for Conserva-
tive services, while Creative Re-
form services are held in the Park-
er Room of the YMCA.
All Jewish students in the com-
munity, whether attending the uni-
versity or not, are invited.
Prof. Arthur P. Mendel of the
University of Michigan's depart-
ment of history delivered the ad-
dress at Conservative services on
erev Rosh Hashana. Rabbi Gerald
Goldman delivered the sermon at
the Reform service, and Rabbi
Joel Poupko at the Orthodox serv-
ices on Rosh Hashana morning.
On Sunday evening, at 6 p.m.
the regular Deli House will be
open, with delicatessen sandwiches
and cokes available to students in
the atmosphere of the }Mel cof-
fee house.
