JudyLane to Direct
Girls' Activities at
Lubavitch Center
The youth department of the Lu-
bavitcher Center, headed by Rabbi
Y. M. Kagan, has announced the
appointment of Judy Lane as a
youth leader to head youth activi-
ties for girls of all ages.
Miss Lane's duties will include
supervision of Sunday games clubs,
weeknight clubs (swimming, arch-
ery, roller skating), Saturday after-
noon clubs (Mesibos Shabos) and
dramatic clubs.
She also will be in charge of the
Center's special education class,
and will organize a special "Li-
brary for Jewish Youth." She will
lead outings and direct plays and
parades, scheduled for the coming
year.
Miss Lane, 18, is a native De-
troiter. She attended Beth Jacob
High School and has just re-
turned from a year's study in
graduate educational guidance at
the Machone Sarah Schneerer
Institute in Jerusalem.

The Jewish Center varsity bas-
ketball team is preparing for
another season, with practice start-
ing Oct. 17.
Under the coaching of Barry
Bershad, the team compiled a 23-5
won-lost record last year. The
team narrowly lost out on a bid
to the national tournament in
Allentown, Pa., by a loss to Can-
ton, 0., in the Midwest Region
tournament. The team is antici-
pating a rematch with the Canton
squad in Louisville next February.
The Center cagers lost graduat-
ing seniors Rick Ehrlich and Ken
Bloom of the starting squad. Re-
turning from last year's starting
squad will be 6'4" Bob Green and
guards Marc Landau and Steve
"Hanbone" Hantler. Green aver-
aged 16 points per game last year,
while Landau and Hantler each
averaged around 12 points per
game.
Steve Acker, returning for his
third year OD the team, is to
fill in at Ehrich's forward posi-
tion. Bruce Kaciander and Marc
Werner will be backup guards
behind Landau and Hastier
and will probably share the
starting duties with them. For
depth at forward, the team hopes
to lure Marc Sheppard away
from the Southfield High courts.
With Bershad retiring after this
year, the players hope to let him
leave as a winner.
Besides the Midwest tournament
in Louisville next February, the
team plans to be in Chicago dur-
ing winter vacation, and have a
home series with Toledo and Can-
ton. If the team raises sufficient
funds, it will represent the Center
in Philadelphia, Boston, Allentown
and other cities in the Midwest
that sponsor varsity teams.
The team sells entertainment
books and holds car washes, candy
and donut sales. Also , planned is
the showing of sports films to
younger age groups on Sundays
at the Center.
