and to the Nations of the World

NE'ILAH PRAYER

God, that doest wondrously,
God, that doest wondrously,
Pardon at Thy people's cry,
As the closing hour draws nigh !
Few we Israel's sons and weak:
Thee, is penitence, they seek
0 regard their anguished cry,
As the closing hour draws nigh !
Souls in grief before Thee poured,
Agonize for deed and word;
We 1111De sinned ! Forgive !" they cry
As the dosing hour draws nigh !
Heal thew ! Let their trust in Thee
Morn aside Wrath's dread decree;
Dons them not, but heed their cry,
As the dosing hour draws nigh !
Far our Fathers' righteousness
Same us now in our distress;
Mire so glad with freedom's cry,
As the dosing hour draws nigh !

THE STOLLMANS

By BEN GALLOB
(Copyright UM JTA, loc.)
NEW YORK—Unresolved fears
and prejudices of members, staff
and lay leaders of Jewish com-
munity centers toward Blacks ar
hampering efforts to get more cen-
ters involved in helping to solve
urban problems, according to find-
ings of a conference sponsored by
the National Jewish Welfare Board
and the American Jewish Commit-
tee.
Problems and conflicts experi-
enced by such Jewish center per-
sonnel, plus recommendations
based on experiences of centers
throughout the United States, were
described in a report on the con-
ference published by the two agen-
cies.
The report indicated that while
centers are • conducting a wide
variety of programs to help solve
such problems, they could accom-
plish much more if they overcame
"ambivalent" attitudes among
their trustees, staff workers, mem-
bers and client groups. The con-
ference, held in fall 1969, brought
together center professionals from
the JWB and intergroup experts
from the AJC.
The report said scores of Cen-
ters were conducting programs
to -help the poor In education,
recreation, job training, health
and child care. Many centers
have provided job training for
school dropouts and other edu-
cationally disadvaataged persons.
At least three centers have been
providing consultation services
to Model Cities planning groups.
For children, centers have spon-
scred intergroup activities in art,
music, poetry, drama, Head Start
programs, day care centers,
tutoring programs and resident,
as well as day, camping.
Many centers have prepared
members to work on urban prob-
lems by conducting programs on
those problems. Some 20 centers
have trained volunteers to serve
the poor in health clinics, settle-
ment houses, recreation centers
and child care agencies.
The report said that Jewish
institutions have not coped effec-
tively with fears and prejudices.
adding that "Center members have
not been encouraged to speak out
about their racial fears and
doubts" and that "Those who did
express mixed feelings have been
lectured or shut up." Volunteers
who fear to enter a ghetto area
"should be given an opportunity
to discuss their fears without being
accused of racism," the publication
asserted.

Jews Join 5,000 Leftists-
at Paris Rally for Arabs

PARIS (JTA) — Five thousand
French leftists, including a num-
ber of Jews and Arab students,
jammed the huge Salle De Mutu-
elite here for a rally in support
of the Palestinian "Freedom Fight-
ers." The gathering was addressed
by two young Jews who said they
had just returned from Jordan
where they visited encampments
of El. Fatah and the Popular Front
for the Liberation of Palestine.
One young Jewish girl, declining
to give her name, described the
"suffering of the Palestinian peo-
ple" and called on "democratic
and leftist organizations of all re-
ligions and creeds" to support the
Palestinians in their fight against
King Hussein of Jordan and the
state of Israel.

CENSORSHIP
The organization of our press
has truly been a success. Our law
concerning the press is such that
divergencies of opinion between
members of the government -arc
no longer an occasion for public
exhibitions, which are not the
newspapers' business. We've elimi-
nated that conception of political
freedom' which holds that every-
body has the right to say whatever
comes into his bead.—Adolf Hitler. I
