Guest Columnist
Fifi D'Orsay, who'll be at the
Oct. 13 dinner-dance at Raleigh
House, will lecture the night after
in Fisher Theater's Detroit Town
Hall . .. Her subject is "I'm Glad
I'm Not Young Anymore" . . . Fifi
is 66 years old and looks 40, with
trim figure to go with vitality ga-
lore . . She first came to Holly-
wood in 1930 under contract to Fox
Studios to star with Will Rogers
in "They Had to See Paris" . . .
and earned the title of "The French
Bombshell" while co-starring with
Victor McLaglen,- Al Jolson, Bing
Crosby and Maurice Chevalier
among others Fifi is a regular
gal who wore a handle bar mus-
tache as a circus bearded lady in
"Wild and Wonderful" with Tony
Curtis, and in "What A Way To Go"
with Shirley McLaine, was padded
as an elegant baroness. Spiced by
her own zest for living, Fifi made
a most provocative and witty rac-
onteur.
Kenny Newman, nine-, zar-old
son of Dr. Phil and Sally Neuman,
was asked by grandfather Max
Sosin if he was a member of the
Democratic Party ... Said Kenny.
"I wasn't even invited!"

Featuring Detrott's Inimitable. Harry Harris with the
Lenny Schick Trio 4 Nights a Week. Closed Sunday.

Hour Glass on W. McNichols Rd.,

which means New Years Eve
every night again at Angel's. --
Steven Feldman, 16-year-old son
of Henry Feldman and Oak Park
High student, won the Michigan
Junior Chess Championship recent-
ly held in Lansing . . . again de-
fending the title he has held since
1968.
Sammy Lieberman, bossman at
the Raleigh House, has accepted
the appointment of co-chairman of
this year's dinner-dance by Detroit
Businessmen's Group City of Hope,
Nov. 1, at the Raleigh House . . .
Dr. Leonard Moss and Joe Braver
are co-chairmen of the affair with
Sammy.
The Skandia lip-smacicing smor-
gasbord crowd deserves an educa-
cataion on how to dine and enjoy
itself the Scandinavian way . .
Putting everything on the plate is
very wrong . . . There's so much
delight to dining at Scandia that it
is a shame not to do it properly!
. . . If owner Paul Boraks is
around, ask him the right way ...
If not, one of the folks who work
there will show you.
Tony and Carolyn bring a new
sound to the Apartment Lounge on
W. McNichols, just west of South-
field . . . It's a blending of their
two voices in rhythmic styling .. .
Tony and Carolyn are husband and
wife and the knitting of their
voices goes together with the pat-
tern for a happily married life as
well as very fine entertainment.
Danny Holley continues to pack
them in at the Afterglow Lounge
on W. McNichols, just west cf
Woodward . . . He's easily one of
the top local entertainers in De-
troit and an excellent attraction
for Dick Larry.
Cantonese food for folks losing
weight . . . that's the new "thing"
at Hoa Kow Inn on Nine Mile in
Oak Park . . . The specialty is
making a lot of friends!
Without doubt the top after-hours
spot in Detroit is Checker Bar B Q
on Livernois near 8 Mile ... Opens
11 in the morning and doesn't close
until dawn the next day ... Enter-
tainment starts at 2:30 a.m. . . .
No liquor, but show biz folks work-
ing in niteries, along with so many
other folks out late, certainly ap-
preciate Milt Tyner's early and
after-hours eatery!
