Dedication of Milan Conference Center
Linked With Plea for Youth Involvement

Bnai Brith's deep involvement
in youth activities gained valuable
extension with the establishment
of the Charles and Florence Milan
BBYQ Conference Center in Roch-
ester Township at Belle River,
Ontario, on Lake St. Clair, 18
miles east of Windsor.
Representatives of the Bnai Brith
Youth Organization, and the parent
organization participated in im-
pressive ceremonies Sunday after-
noon when the center was -formal-
ly dedicated, with Charles Milan
receiving a plaque which now
graces the main conference room
of the c e n t e r. Milan had just
returned from Israel to attend the
dedication. Mrs. Milan remained
in Israel for another week, both
having gone there to attend the
wedding of a member of their
family.
Mrs. Sanford Rosenthal, as
chairman of the new center
committee, presided and outlin-
ed some of the objectives of the
center to which additions were
made with sleeping quarters for
28 participants in week-end or
special events for either Bnai
Brith boys' or girls' groans.
Mrs. Rosenthal told Of the events
that had already taken place -at
the center -during the past three
months and related the contacts
that had been made in behalf of
Bnai Brith with the Milans by
Robert Kranitz, leading to the
establishment of the center.
Milan, in brief remarks, told of
the years his family had been at
the cottage that has been trans-
formed info an enlarged center.
He told of the late Rabbi Morris
Adler having affixed the mezuzot
on the building in 1952. At Sun-
day's ceremonies, the mezuzot
were affixed, with the entire gath-
ering reciting the traditional pray-
er, by the director of BBYO,
Emanuel Mandel
The highlight of the afternoon
was the address of Dr. Max F.
Baer, national director of BBYO,
who, oldlinhig the crises that
face Jewry, the world and the
youth of today, urged emphasis
on leadership training and a
sense of communication with
youth In order to prepare the
latter for their role in the Jew-
ish community.
As youth grows into maturity,
Dr. Baer emphasized, it is neces-
sary that the proper setting be
assured for their leadership posi-
tions, and that the training neces-
sary should be on a level com-
mensurate with the current needs.
He deplored the failures in Jewish
educational efforts today and the
difficulties that arise in American
