Warnings and Challenges ... Against Genocide
and Its Threats and Admonitions to Leftists
Lest They Give Comfort to Mankind's Enemies

A Plea and a Warning From Lord Rothschild About Impending Genocide Danger to Jewry

The Leftists Who Condone Anti-Jewish Practices

The first letter in the page-full of communications in the Sept. 13
issue of the New York Times contained a very important admonition
signed by three very distinguished American intellectuals—Irving
Howe, Norman Podhoretz and Lionel Trilling. They stated:

Ghastly as the kidnaping of innocent travelers to the Jordan
desert must seem to all humane persons, there Is an aspect to this
event that requires special attention. We refer to the fact that the
Arab "revolutionaries" (at first) allowed non-Jewish women and
children to leave the captive planes and go to a hotel in Amman,
while forcing all Jewish women and children — whether Israeli
citizens or nationals of other countries, including the United States
—to remain In the planes as hostages.

This calls Into question the claim of these Arab "revolution-
aries" that they are merely anti-Israel or "anti-Zionist" and not
anti-Jewish. In thus segregating the Jewish hostages, they have
employed a principle of selection that has not been used since the
Second World War. That there are American intellectuals and left-
ists who nevertheless accord political sympathy to such Arab
groups seems to us shameful.

Perhaps this message will awaken Many of the New Left adherents
who have, by their actions, given comfort to enemies of justice who now
are backing a strong anti-Jewish line.

It is important to note in this connection the warnings by Jack
Anderson in a recent nationally syndicated column, that "those revolu-
tionary rogues, the Black Panthers, have magnificently finessed some
of the nation's most high-browed intellectuals." Stating that "the big
thinkers . . . have raised their voices and opened their purses to the
Panthers," Anderson wrote:

All the while the Panthers have accepted this liberal largesse
they have shown a grand contempt for their benefactors. In the
privacy of their hangouts, according to the confidenial reports of
government informers, the Panthers use scornful obscenities to
describe the white liberals who raise money for them.
They have joked roguisly, for example, that they wil' use
the contributions,of such eminent Jews as Leonard Bernstein to do
the work of Al Fatah in this country.
And when Arthur Goldberg put his enormous prestige behind
an investigation into alleged police persecution of the Panthers,
they ungratefully called him every kind of a Jewish fascist pig.

CIA reports, meanwhile, claim that Panther leaders not only
have met with Arab guerrilla commanders but have made common
cause with them. Coincidentally, Panther rhetoric has become in-
creasingly anti-Semitic. A favorite slogan: "Off (meaning kill) the
Zionist Imperialists."
Among themselves, say informers, the Panthers have quarreled
over whether to pursue a racist, all-black revolution. Chairman
Bobby Seale, for instance, wanted a pure revolution uncontaminated
by white radicals. But propagandist Eldridge Cleaver contended
that the Panthers couldn't overthrow the government without white_
help.
Cleaver succeeded in establishing a policy of white collabora-
tion for this country. But intelligence reporti claim that, secretly,
he has traveled all the way to Peking and Pyongyang to discuss a
worldwide revolution of blacks, browns and yellows against whites.
In the meantime, 'the Panthers attend white fund-raising
parties and titillate the drawing-room gatherings with the Panther
strut and ghetto slang. They bait the white liberals mildly by call-
ing them "bookies" to their faces. But behind their backs, the
Panthers preach raw racism.
This lengthy quotation is compelled by the fact that Cleaver and
his Panthers have gone so far as to open an office in Algiers. They have
propagated against Jewry and Israel in the centers of Arab terrorist
activities. And Jewish New Leftists have fallen into their trap!
But we refuse to believe there are too many such Jewish New
Leftists. Rational, fair-minded, knowledgeable young people know better.
And all Leftists with a sense of honor will learn soon enough that back-
ing the terrorists, wherever they may be, wherefrom they may operate,
undermines the decencies of all human beings and threatens the
security of mankind.

Lindbergh and Innocent Victims of His Prejudices

Charles A. Lindbergh's retention of prejudices that have stamped
him an anti-Semite and a supporter of the Nazi idea of inhumanity that
once menaced mankind seems to have fooled a few people. Those who
know history and who have learned the lessons of statesmanship and
diplomacy of the 1930s and 1940s knew how to judge the bigotry of a
man who had risen to notoriety. But a few were fooled. Among them
apparently is the editor of the New Center News who gave some cred-
ence to Lindbergh's claim that we had lost the war.

Said this Detroit editor: "There is in them (in Lindbergh's revival
of his old ideas) some food for thought."

Lord Rothschild of London, in a letter dated Aug. 20, 1970, which was published in the New York Times
in its issue of Sept. 13 warning of an impending renewal of Genocide in the threats against Israel and the
Jewish people.
In his scholarly analysis of the existing situation, Lind Rothschild exposes the role of Prof. Yusif A.
Sayigh and others who are aiming at a new destruction of Israel. The British Jewish leader submits that
it won't be easy to destroy Israel but that the danger exists nevertheless.

His long letter to the Times stated:
The original version of the Na-
tional Convenant, issued in 1964,
could be said to imply that Jews
living in Palestine in 1947 would
be recognized as Palestinians and
would, therefore, be allowed to
continue living there. In the revised
1968 version, however, it is ex-
plicitly stated that only Jews who
lived in Palestine "until the begin-
ning of the Zionist invasion," i.e.,
until the Balfour Declaration in
1917, would be considered as Pales-
tinians.

To the Editor:
The liquidation of Isgael is still
a possibility and an Arab, if not an
Egyptian, objective, even when the
probability of a Soviet-American
"collision" in the Middle East has
greatly increased in recent times.
When I refer to the liquidation
of Israel, I do not mean the elimin-
ation of Israel as an independent
country like Hungary and Czecho-
slovakia, odious enough as that
objective must always be.
It is, therefore, relevant to rec-
ord and analyze the recent utter-
ances of the Palestinian Liberation
Organization, the best-known lead-
ers of which are George Habash
and Yassir Arafat, and of its top
institution, the Palestinian National
Council.
The most recent and important
utterance of this body is the re-
vised National Covenant of the
Palestine Liberation Organization,
adopted by its fourth Congress in
Cairo (July 10-17, 1968) and by the
Popular Front for the Liberation of
Palestine.
The National Covenant is the
basic political document of the
PLO and agreement with its con-
tents is a condition for joining the
"Command of Armed Struggle"
which now makes joint announce-
ments for most of the terrorist or-
ganizations. Article 6 of the Cove-
nant is important in the context of
intended Jewish genocide:

ing in Palestine until the beginning
of the Zionist invasion will be con-
sidered Palestinians."

particularly in regard to the date,
1917, of the Zionist invasion. He
correctly pointed out that this date
was not mentioned in Article 6 of
the revised National Covenant; but
no doubt unintentionally, he omitted
to mention the specification of the
date of the Zionist invasion, given
in the resolutions of the fourth
PLO Congress which endorsed
the revised National Covenant.
This is the specification:
"Likewise, the National Council

wrong and deliberately misleading,

It is not only this message from a distinguished member of the Rothschild family that must be wel-
comed as a valuable indication that our men of influence are awakening, but also the fact that at-last Jews
in publiciffles will not be silent.

Lord Rothschild's letter primarily demolishes the idea that Arabs could be trusted to establish a
nation of Moslems, Jews and Christians in present- day Israel. What that proposal represents is a scheme to
oust Jews from the area. If there is to be a Palestinian state, it could be established in Jordan where par-
tition originally intended to assign statehood to Arabs from pre-Israel Palestine. On that basis Jordan and
its king could be assured security and with Israel's and the world powers'—primarily the United States'—
cooperation we can have tranquility and cooperation between nations and the world's leading faiths.

The Rothschild letter appeared on the same page of the NY Times as the message (quoted in another
item on this page) from Irving Howe, Norman Podhoretz and Lionel Trilling. What the combined expres-
sions seem to show is that, at last, our intellectuals are awakening to the need to speak out against injus-
tice, that it isn't enough to be a liberal and to propagate justice for Blacks and that if there is to be justice
for others we must strive with equal emphasis and eloquence for justice for our own kinsmen. There has
been silence too long. Now the voices that are being raised must never be silenced again.

Egypt's Treatment of Prisoners of War

Israel has so many reasons to resent the misrepresentations about
her treatment of Arabs within her territories and the manner in which
prisoners are provided for, that whenever a man of good faith comes
forth with the facts we are extremely grateful to him. A typical exam-
ple is the challenge that came from British Air Marshal R. I. Jones
who, in a letter to the London Economist, wrote:

He had designed the Detroit
Athletic Club building and was of-
fered membership in DAC. But

the token reward that would make
him an exception to Jews who had
been barred for membership.

Little is known of what has happened to the 12 Israeli prisoners
of war, held by Egypt, because neither letters nor visits by the
Red Cross are allowed them. The Egyptians have repatriated one
Israeli pilot who had had his leg amputated, but another shot down
at the same time was pictured as fit on Egyptian television, and
has since died, reputedly of heart failure. This seems a highly un-
likely cause for the death of a young man who has had to satisfy
the exceptionally high medical criteria for aircrew, and suspicions
that he died from maltreatment inevitably arise from the fact that
the Egyptians would not release his body.

Indeed, there is, but not in the sense of the Detroit writer's ap-

One wonders what it is that the Egyptians have to conceal that
they will not follow the normal conventions for treatment of prisoners
of war. Is it not time that they showed In actions other than words
that they are bringing at least some good will and a reasonably
humane outlook to the peace talks?

Coupled with the terrorism that accompanied hijacking and destruc-
tion of planes, there is increasing cause for puzzlement why there is
such readiness to condemn Israel and such hesitancy to secure justice
for Jews and Israelis. There is no end to prejudice and to the eternal

hatred for the Eternal People!
