Mr. Fogelman was the author waist, Mr. Cohen knew Dr. Sun from Calgary, Alta. where they met in 1906, and thei r friendship led to Mr. Cohen's appointment as foreign secretary of the Kuomin- tang in Western Canada. During World War I, he was in charge of a Chinese labor battalion of Cana- dian railway troops stationed in France. As a general in the Kuomintang, Mr. Cohen organized and trained Dr. Sun's army and supervised purchases of foreign arms and planes. During the war with China, he was a Japanese prisoner, taken back to Canada in 1943. Mr. Cohen retained his interest in China, visiting the mainland se.'eral times since it became Communist In 1949. He was ac- quainted with Chiang Kal-shek, and several Communist genera.. He last visited China in 1966.
