Many very interesting people
pass through the doors of our
Charter .House Barber Shop. They
are always planning or doing some-
thing, and the tempo of their lives
astonishes me. As individuals thc.: .
stand out like sore thumbs. None
of them are alike.
The only thing they have in com-
mon is that they are never dull
or -boring. Take Sid Singer for
example. For two years he has
been bragging about his very rare
Himalayan Hoof dogs. It was not
until recently, when they were
disqualified at an exclusive dog
show, that he learned they were
actually miniature Sicilian don-
keys. "1 don't know what to do
now," said Sid. "They're house-
broken!"
Builders Joe and Milt Dresner
have just completed plans for a
unique building one story above
ground and 20 stories below.
Associate Jack Friedman con-
fided that someone had probably
turned the architects drawings
upside down.
One of the best dressed men
to enter our shop is Meyer Fish-
man. When he injured his leg..plar
ing golf recently, he refused to let
Doctor Herbert Levin place a cast
on it until his tailor was present
for the fitting. Speaking of well
dressed men. Sol Eisenberg has
the world's largest close t. I
thought he was running a haber-
dashery on the side the first time
I saw it.
, Aubrey Ettenheimer offers a
word to the gals — the more sec-
, ond helpings, the fewer second
glances, and Dr. Robert Drews
gives this definition of a diet —
slowing down to make a curve.
Dave En:merman owned an
island off the coast of Florida in
times past. Rumor has it that he
again has the bug and is building
a beautiful home in Franklin Vil-
lage with a moat around it.
Jeff Davidson was a finalist in
a recent Detroit Edison cooking
contest. He claims to have blended
the best of Chinese, Jewish and
Italian cooking. His specialty is an
egg roll stuffed with chopped liver,
simmered in a sweet and sour
spaghetti sauce.
Mortgage dealer Baron Her-
man has opened a travel agency
with - plans to feature a non-stop
tour of the world by submarine.
Michael Aller and Samuel Gel-
ler are among the notables spon-
soring a testimonial dinner-dance
for Danny Raskin on Oct. 13 at
the Raleigh House. Seems every-
body will he there. Hal Gordon and
his orchestra with Sammy Woolf.
Max Sosin, toastmaster, Turk Pru-
jansky the starmaker in from the
coast, Fifi D'Orsay, Saucy Sylvia
and other celebrities appearing in
or around Detroit.
Dance instructor Joe Cornell and
Jimmy Laker, on the committee
for Danny's dinner-dance tribute.
remind caterer Al Rosenberg, also
on the committee, of the time he
told a woman at a party, "Beg
pardon. but your hose is badly
wrinkled." The lady shot him a
look of unadulterated hatred and
answered, "I'm not wearing hose
this evening!"
