JERUSALEM (JTA)—The gov-
ernment has announced that it will
expropriate about 2,700 acres of
land in Jerusalem for 'development
purposes and promised "liberal
compensation" to the present own-
ers.
Most of the area concerned lies
in the former 'Jordanian sector of
Jerusalem and is sparsely in-
habited.
The government said there were
some 350 Jewish and 20 Arab fami-
lies in the zone which has been
earmarked for a long-tenn de-
velopment project. The major part
of the expropriated land will be
utilized for housing and public
parks.
