Pittsburgh High Schools Give Credits for Hebrew

PITTSBURGH (JTA) —Courses
in Hebrew language and litera-
ture at the School of Advanced
Jewish Studies have been approv-
ed by the. Pittsburgh Board of
Education for credit in the city's
high schools, according to officials
of the SAJS, the Jewish communal
system of secondary and teacher
education. The officials said the
board acted after a study of the

SAJS Hebrew studies curricula,
texts, instruction methods and
achievement evaluation pr o c e-
dures.
Officials of the SAJS, a United
Jewish Federation beneficiary,
said that at the end of each school
year, the SAJS will submit to high
school authorities the grades of
students asking credit for Hebrew
studies. The students will have the
opportunity to earn from one to
five years of high school credit for
Hebrew studies. During the past
school year, SAJS taught more
than 300 students of high school
and college age.

Ellen Fredrica Gilbert became
the bride of Joel P. Schaumberg
at a recent ceremony at the Elks
Club in South Bend. Rabbi Elliot
Rosenstock officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley S. Gilbert
of South Bend. Mr. Schaumberg
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius
W. Schaumberg of Ivanhoe Rd.,
Southfield.
The bride wore a gown of silk
organza accented with a peau
d' ange lace motif and featuring
a scooped neckline, long ta-
pered sleeves, fitted Empire
bodice and an A-line skirt with
a chapel train. A matching lace
bonnet held her tiered silk illu-
sion veil.
Matron of honor was Mrs. F.
Richard Brunetti of Old Bridge,
N. J., sister of the bride. Brides-
maids were Helen Charlupski and
Carolyn and Gayle Dorfman, all
of Detroit, Mrs. Michael Coleman
of Philadelphia, Amy Finkel of
South Orange, N.J., and Karen
Minkin of Canton, 0.
Frederick Schaumberg of De-
troit served his brother as best
man. Ushers were Lawrence Char-
lupski, Joel Dorfman, Paul Jacobs,
and Louis Lan, all of Detroit, F.
Richard Brunetti of Old Bridge
and Stephen Gilbert, brother of
the bride.
The couple plans a wedding
trip to Israel and Europe next
summer, following the end of
school. They will make their
home in Ann Arbor.

Beth Yehuda PTA Meets

The first PTA board meeting of
Beth Yehuda Schools will be held
9 p.m. Wednesday at the home of
Mrs. Benjamin Poss, 14141 Bal-
four, Oak Park. Mrs. Arthur Gold,
president, announced that plans for
the year will be discussed.

NCJW to Host
Gourmet Cook

A dessert luncheon fo: paid-up
members of Detroit Section, Na-
tional Council of Jewish Women,
will feature a lecture and demon-
stration of gourmet cooking by
Florence Kerr Hirschfeld 12:30
p.m. Sept. 22 at Temple Emanu-
El.
Mrs. Hirschfeld, author of "Cook-
ing With Love" and "The Count-
down Cookbook." both published
by Houghton Mifflin Co., is past
president of the women's division
of the Jewish Federation of Metro-
politan Chicago. She is nationally
known as a gourmet cook and hos-
tess.
The Detroit Section at this time
will call attention to its "Ship
a Box" drive, part of a national
NCJW campaign which annually
sends thousands of toys and edu-
cational materials to children in
Israel and underdeveloped coun-
tries.
Program chairman is Mrs. Shel-
don Stern; and hospitality chair-
man, Mrs. Ronald Greenberg. Mrs.
Frederick Shevin is president of
the section.
Mrs. Hirschfelth r who was vice
president of the Women's Auxiliary
of the Jewish Community Centers
for 12 years, has helped raise
thousands of dollars in scholar-
ships for Jewish Center camps
through speaking on the art of
cooking and creative homemaking.

Honeymoon in Bermuda

Barbara Faith Goldman became
the bride of Sanford Lawrence
Moretsky in a recent ceremony at
the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel. Rab-
bi M. Robert Syme and Cantor
Harold Orbach officiated.
The bride is the daughter of '
Mr. and Mrs. Max Goldman of
Stratford Ave., Southfield. The
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ben Moretsky of Evergreen
Ave.
The bride wore a silk organ-
za gown of Alencon lace and
seed pearls with a matching
headpiece. She carried orchids
on her confirmation Bible.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Jac-
queline Beigler, and bridesmaids
were Cynthia Gowen and Barbara
Cochran. Junior bridesmaid and
junior usher were Lesa and Scott
Moretsky.
Dr. Robert Moretsky served as
best man, and ushers were Steven
Goldman and Sol Moretsky.
After a honeymoon in Bermuda,
the couple will reside in Warrens-
ville Heights, 0.

Branch Two to Install

Adele Mondry, the new chair-
man of Branch Two, Poale Zion,
Labor Zionist Organization. will
host the installation supper meet-
ing of the branch 6 p.m. Sunday

David Stone and Bride
Take Trip to Europe

MRS. DAVID STONE

Loretta Shloss, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Roman Shloss of Kip-
ling Ave., Oak Park, became Mrs.
David A. Stone in a recent cere-
mony at the Town and Country
Club.
The bridegroom is the son of
Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Crane of
Santa Barbara Ave., Southfield.
Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple Is-
rael officiated at the ceremony.
The bride wore an Empire-styled
gown of silk organza beaded with
seed pearls. Her chapel-length
veil was of silk illusion secured
by a Camelot headpiece embroid-
ered with matching seed pearls.
Mrs. Stone carried orchids and
Stephanotis arranged on a silk fan.
Marla B. Shloss, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. Brides-
maids were Helen Levin, Sandy
Stone and Gilda Listopad, The
Junior bridesmaid was Lori IOU-
man.
Gary Stone the bridegroom's
brother, served as best man. Ush-
ers were Steven Lipton, Ben Gill
and Lance Stone. Mrs. Lisa Spal-
ter, grandmother of the bride-
groom, also participated in the
ceremony.
During the nuptials, the couple
sipped wine from the same cere-
monial cup used by the bride's
parents at their wedding.
After a honeymoon in Europe,
the couple will live in Kirksville,
Mo., where Mr. Stone attends
school.

Detroiter Honored
at Salzburg Affair

rently is serving as one of two
American members of the jury
for the international competition
for voice el the German radio
,stations in Munich.

MISCHA KOTTLER, official
pianist of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra since 1952, has an-
nounced his retirement from the
orchestra. Kottler, teacher, soloist
and fine arts director of station
WIVJ, will solo with the orchestra
this season in the Tchaikowsky
Concerto No. 1.
