Kennedy International Airport Monday despite two dam- aged landing tires. The pilot was Capt. Oded Abarbanell of El Al, who was hijacked to Algeria on June 23, 1968, in the same plane. Emerging from the plane Mon- day, just after noon, he said calmly: "I was not really too con- cerned." Compared with his 40 day detention in Algeria, he said "This was not even an incident.' "These figures represent only those incidents that are known to have been reported to the police," Hoffman emphasized. A study of the kinds of phrases and slogans painted by the desec- rators over the five-year period indicated an increasing use of words associated with black mili- tancy and Arab sympathies. Another trend, Hoffman noted, was the extreme youth of the criminals. Arrests were made and suspects noted in only 27 of the 165 incidents. Those arrested or suspected included 85 persons ranging in age from 7 to 23, in- cluding two girls of age 14 and 15. To discover an error means to invent retroactively.—Goethe. service. The military court had sen- tenced the two Arabs to death for the murder of three Nablus resi- dents suspected of collaborating with Israeli authorities. This was the first death sentence issued by a military tribunal in the West Bank territory. Mahmoud Alfi, 19, and Assam Elshayib, 21, were found guilty of murder, sabotage, membership in a hostile organization and of throw- ing hand grenades at the military government and labor exchange buildings in Nablus. They pleaded guilty to the charges of murder and sabotage. FOUR SEASONS SUBURBAN SHOE SALON The best in Adult Music & Entertainment NEW YORK—The continued de- secration of Jewish synagogues, schools, centers and cemeteries in communities throughout the Unit- ed States is also "a desecration of the principle of human freedom on which this country was founded," according to Philip E. Hoffman, president of the American Jewish Committee. Referring to a report just issued by AJC's trends and analyses divi- sion, Hoffman revealed that 13 anti-Semitic desecrations and as- saults had been committed since January, ranging from East to West Coast. • They included the bombing of a synagogue in Seattle, the fire bombing of a Jewish center and a private house in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, the tossing of explosives at a Jewish center in the Bronx, the overturning of tombstones in a Jewish cemetery in Karlruhe, N.D., and the defac- ing of a synagogue in Milwaukee. "Although this is somewhat less than the cumber of similar incidents that occurred in the same period of 1969, it is an af- front to this nation that they should have happened at all," Mr. Hcffman declared.
