Married to the former Helen Iglauer a doctor whose father was also a doctor, Dr. Glueck is one of the world's foremost archeologists. His books describing the art and satisfactions of excavating in the Holy Land are delightful. They have inspired many to take up the profession of archeology. During World War II. he "dis- appeared" into a cloak and dagger outfit somewhere in the Middle East and his activities contributed greatly towards the Allied victory. Dr. Glueck says that in 1971 he will give up his administrative work as head of the seminary. This book outlines some of the doctrines of the Chabad Hasidic philosophy, as well as the aims and development of the Lubavitcher movement from its inception, near- ly 200 years ago, to the present. The title was taken from the book's prefatory letter by the pre- sent Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, in which the rebbe writes of the challenge of facing up to obstacles that are encountered in life. Copies of "Challenge" can be ordered from Merkos, 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11213.
