The memory . . . of singing my
song "Gone" to Alice and Morris

my home in Los Angeles when i
was written by Pat Kennedy and
myself.

stars like Harry Harris, "Saucy

Schwartz, Barbara Paul, etc., com-

siege of laryingitis.
The memory . . . of meeting
with old friend and Mayor Joe For-
bes of Oak Park, who in the early
'40s played softball against my
city championship Codd Field
team. Joe at that time played for
McCullough Field with pitcher
George Abramovitch and others.
Fellows on • my team included
"Midgie'• Meltzer. Al Berris, Lou
and Chuck Chudler, "Babe" Bush-
kin, Harry Solomon, Carl Gussin,
s ler and
Chester Ilarris, Nate Ge a
"Cincy" Sachs.
The memory . . . of singing
"My Yiddishe Mama" and receiv-
ing a standing ovation from both
Jew and non-Jew--a thrill I'll
never forget.
The memory ... of being able to
help arrangements for my goad
friend Danny Raskin, whose testi-
monial dinner is being held Oct.
13. Fifi D'Orsay, the French bomb-
shell of yesteryears and leading
lady with Victor McLaglen, Will
Rogers and others, who'll appear
in Detroit at the Fisher Theater
Town Hall, Ch, . 14, is coming in
with me a couple of days ahead to
attend this great affair. My dear
friend Joey Bishop is coming to
the Elmwood in October. When I
return to Los Angeles, I'll call him
in the hopes that he can come in a
few days earlier for Danny's big
dinner-dance.
The memory . . . of people com-
ing up to me and saying with
shocked expression. "My good-
ness, Turk, I never thought you
could sing!"
The memory . . . of seeing the
Saints and Sinners being reorgan
iced in Detroit — with new mem-
bers Percy Swartz, 'Mitchell New-
man, Paul Newman, Ilank Panek
being ribbed and roasted by my-
self and Sam Schwartz.
The memory .. . of seeing ex-
basketball star "Suzie" Shecter
and Charlie, Selik, a great soft-
ball pitcher, neither of whom I
had seen in over 25 years.
The memory . . of my having
the spotlight hit a couple as I con-
gratulated them on their newly
born child. and discovering it was
the wrong table. No, the spotlight
wasn't red—it was my face. The
two people I congratulated by mis-
take weren't even married!
The memory . . . of seeing my
life-long friend Ben "Ungie" Sie-
gel and Barney Barnett, Sammy
and LaVern Mandell, Benny and
Bess Greisman, Morris Vinikoff
and others who were also in the
1950 audiences at the Flame Show
Bar when I discovered singer
Johnny Ray, whom I later man-
aged.
The memory . . . over 300 peo-
ple coming out to Jimmy Cole-
man's athletic club in the Wood-
Crest Villa apartments on Wayne
Rd. in Westland to bid me fare-
well. Such a wonderful sight
brought stifled trickles to my eyes.
Especially when everyone got to-
gether around the Billy Rose Trio
and sang my theme song, "I Love
You" to me. This glorious glorious
sensation was the ultimate climax
to my beautiful five-week stay in
Detroit. Thank you, dear friends.
You've carved a mold of new hap-
piness I shall never forget. Tonight
in Los Angeles I'll "Walk With a

Memory" of happiness.
