Love From the Kabala

"The Kabala" — from "Ten
Luminous Emanations" by Rabbi
Isaac Luria—Compiled by Melba
Krause of Grand Blanc, Mich.

created this mundane
God
world with its human inhabitants
in order that He might bestow on

them His infinite love and abun-

dance. The natural consequences
of eating unearned bread, of re-

ceiving something that is not
earned by labor and endeavor, is

embarrassment and shame. Sanc-
tification of life and character

through altruism and purification
is eventually rewarded witth God's
bestowal of the ineffable Heavenly
Light upon the devoted soul, while
be is yet upon earth. The recipient
of this abundance experiences the
all-goodness and perfection of his
Creator, and knows as well the
delight and contentment which fol-
lows the accomplishment of ex-
acting labor.
According to the intensity or
measure of the will is the Light
imparted from its Source, the Cre-
ator. The will is the vehicle for the
Light. The human Soul is a part
of God. Greed and pride result in
chasms which further separate
the being from the Origin—the
more self-centered, the more di-
verse from the Creator. Breaking

away from the lower tendencies
and cravings to go toward the
sublime and the spiritual is an act
of will; it consists of transmuting
the "will to receive" into a "will
of bestowal."
The purpose or necessity for the
soul to be "lowered" into a body,
which incurs it so much anguish:
In the body the will to receive is
at its fullest surge. It is the soul
that inverts all the various desires
of the body onto the plane of intel-
ligence when they begin to be ful-
filled by rendering delight to the
Creator. Since the material body
is possessed of the greatest inten-
sity of desire or will to receive, it
is just here that the soul must so-
journ—in the mundane world, in a
garment of flesh. Here it must
train the body to become a suitable
instrument for doing the will of
the Creator. The effort to invert
this utensil of recipiency onto the
plane of altruism is fraught with
exertion; but when finally achieved,
the Supreme Light will be granted.
The Light will be craved only when
a lack is felt; the being must
crave spiritual aboundance. The
Light is always there. By a slow
process of evolving from grada-
tion to gradation it is revealed;
then there is unity, affinity.

Mrs. Hillel Croll, 90, Windsor Pioneer

Minnie Croll, a pioneer of the
Windsor Jewish community and
mother of Canada's Senator David
Croll, died July 30 at age 90.
Mrs. Croll, widow of Hillel Croll,
a businessman and Orthodox leader
who died in 1958, was himself
active in all phases of Jewish com-
munal activity in Windsor.
She came to Canada in 1902
from Russia, where she and her
husband were married. Determined
'to educate all her children, Mrs.
Croll sold real estate in the early
years of her marriage and later
saw her dream come true: her
five sons all received degrees in
law and medicine, and her daugh-
ter obtained a degree in literature.
Besides her son David, Mrs.

Croll leaves Cecil of Windsor
and Drs. Samuel, Leo and
Maurice, all of Detroit; a daugh-
ter, Mrs. David (Evelyn) Zack
of Detroit; 13 grandchildren and

14 great-grandchildren.
Some years ago, Mrs. Croll was
named Mother of the Year in
Windsor and wa s honored by
Windsor officialdom for her serv-
ice to the community and her suc-
cess in raising her children.
The Croll family has long been
active in the Zionist movement,

and Mrs. Croll's son-in-law,. David
Zack, is president of the Jewish
National Fund in Detroit.
The Crolls also were active in
Orthodox causes, and helped found
Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue in
Windsor.
