Factual M.E. Boo k Sells 197,000

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

32—Friday, August 7, 1970

More than 197,000 copies of the
original and paperback editions of
"The Arab War Against Israel:
Myths and Facts-1970" have al-
ready been sold. Widely acclaimed
as a factual account of the Middle
East conflict, it is distributed here
by Ludington News Co. and is
available wherever paperbacks are
sold in the Detroit area.
Published originally by the Near
East Report, Washington biweekly
now in its 14th year, the 72-page
book was designed to counter
massive Arab propaganda in the
United States. The paperback pro-
vides an up-to-date history and
evaluation of the Arab-Israel crisis.
Edited by I. L. Kenen, the book
is valued as a quick and com-
plete reference by Jewish and
Christian speakers as well as
a convenient resource by thou-
sands of students on campuses
across the country.

form, the book deals
pros and cons of such issues as
Israel's right to exist, U.S. policy
in the Middle East, "de-Zioniza-
tion," the arms race, the status
of Jersalem and Arab terrorism.
Divided into 15 ready reference
sections and indexed, each section
deals with a topic of current con-
cern. The section documenting
"The Right to Exist" traces the
development of Israel, quoting
such disparate sources as famed
Arab champion Lawrence of Ara-
bia, the Balfour Declaration, Ma-
ronite Archbishop of Beirut and
the late Trygve Lie, United Nations
secretary general.
"Arab 'Treatment of the Jews"
and "Arab Treatment of Other
Minorities" put on the record
the Arab slaughter of black Af-
ricans of Sudan, Iraqi genocide
of Kurds and the repression suf-
fered by Coptic Christians of
Egypt.
Spelling out the often confus-
ing events of the past two decades,
"The 22-Year-War" quotes "from
the record" as it traces develop-
ments from the aggression in 1948
to the Six-Day War in '67 to the
frequent clashes today.
It has found ready acceptance
on college campuses where Jewish
students find it helpful in discussing
with Arab and New Left students
such burning questions as propo-
sals for a bi-national state, Jewish
and Arab refugee problems and
boundaries.

NEW YORK (JTA)—The na-

raisers of the Reform Jewish Ap-
peal has • been eliminated in a
restructured plan of fund raising
for the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations and the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute of
Religion, the UAHC announced this
week. The RJA had raised funds
for both Reform agencies.
Rabbi Charles D. Mintz of Phil-
adelphia, formerly a UAHC region-
al director, has been named direc-
tor of the new plan. Under that
plan, regional directors, who serve
as liaison between the UAHC and
its member congregations, will add
fund raising to their existing duties.
