Israel's Needs
to Be Stressed
on Tisha b 'Av

Tisha b'Av, which falls on Mon-
day evening and Tuesday, will serve
as an occasion for appeals on be-
half of the Jewish National Fund
at congregations throughout Mich-
igan.
The 9th of Av is a fast day com-
memorating the anniversary of the
destruction of Jerusalem and the
capture of Judea by the Romans in
the year 70.
Philip Stollman and Harry Cohen,
co-chairmen of the JNF religious
groups committee, have issued ap-
peals to rabbis and synagogue
leaders urging that they remind
worshipers of JNF's role in the de-
velopment of Israel and its dire
need of funds.
The Jewish National Fund,
Israel's exclusive land agent, has
planted more than 100,000,000
trees in Israel, constructed hun-
dreds of miles of vital roads and
developed numerous border set-
tlements.
In synagogues on Tisha b'Av,
Stollman and Cohen said, "our
martyrs of the past and the present
will be recalled, and we shall mar-
vel at the events that have led to
the reestablishment of the Jewish
state in our time and the recovery
of the unique symbol of the Jewish
will to survive, the city of Jeru-
