Some 700 delegates represent- ing more than 100,000 Council members in units throughout the United States will transact national business and re-exam- ine council philosophy and ideals. Mrs. Leonard Weiner of Hunting- ton Woods is president of the National Council of Jewish Women. The Greater Detroit Section, act- ing as the hostess section for the convention, is planning and coordi- nating details. Assisting Mrs. Grossman and Mrs. Shiffman are Mrs. Joseph Welt, honorary chairman, and Mrs. Frederick Shevin, president of the Greater Detroit Section, NCJW. Israel Brochures Ready for Senior Adult Trip Brochures describing the itiner- ary and application blanks are now available at the senior adult divi- sion of the Jewish Center, which is sponsoring a 17-day trip to Israel beginning Sept. 8. Staff from the Center will ac- company the group from departure to return. Participation has been invited from the Detroit and Mid- west area. DI 1-4200. j ezensh Women s Roles in American History Are Recorded by Anita Libman Lebeson Anita Libman Lebeson, whose research into Jewish history is in evidence in several of her pub- lished volumes, has turned to "the Sunammite." the noble character of the Bible, and to the writings of Grace Aguilar, for inspiration in providing a history of Jewish women in America. Under the title "Recall to Life," her new book, published by Thomas Yose- loff. gathers up facts about the eminent women who have en- riched Jewi.1, life and who have made great contributions to Jew- ry and to America. Her story is fascinating, just as the "subject is limitless." She points out realistically that "the variations on the theme are end- less" because "women have wrought wondrously" and "their accomplishments are stunning." She goes into detail about many of her heroines in If noble to •, and at least one portion points to several of the very eminent crea- tive figures on the distaff side of Jewish life.
