Wexler Urges U.S. Adopt
Firm Policy in Mid East
SAN FRANCISCO (JTA)—Dr.
William A. Wexler, president of
Bnai Brith, warned that the United
States must not permit the Soviet
Union to take advantage of a "mili-
tary or political vacuum" in the
Middle East.
Addressing the annual conven-
tion here of Bnai Brith District
Four, Dr. Wexler said the Ameri-
can policy to roll back the Soviet
Union's efforts to dominate the
area.
The U. S. initiative, he caution-
ed, must guard against actions
which could "legitimize the aggres-
sive military presence of the So-
viet Union." The Bnai Brith leader
said he was satisfied with Presi-
dent Nixon's assurances to Israel
that there would be no military
buildup by the Arabs during the
90-day ceasefire. But he warned
that the temporary truce "can
create the impression that the un-
limited ceasefire which Egypt and
other Arab states have repudiated,
is a dead issue."

Blamed for Anti-Jewish Campaign
BOSTON (JTA)—Elderly Jews

Mattapan-Dorchester area are to
be helped through a special volun-

regular communications with such

the new center, said that the vol-

elderly Jews on a regular basis.
He said that the volunteers, now
totalling 25 women, will make
"reassurance" telephone calls to
Jews who are isolated, lonely and
shut-in, as well as to those able
to use the wide range of services
provided by the new center.

Sued for Slander After
Attack on Wiesenthal
VIENNA—The Jewish Nazi Vic-

against Education Minister Leopold
Gratz for attacking Simon Wiesen-

Wiesenthal, who was responsible
for the capture of Adolph Eichman,
was accused by Gratz of creating
"a priyate police and informers
organization." Gratz called Wie-

The Socialist-dominated cabinet
is having its own feud with Wiesen-
