constant flow of familiar faces
coming to see me at Angel's Hour
Glass on Six Mile Rd.
It's most gratifying to know
what my dear friend, Bill Ken-
nedy, leading columnist of the
Los Angeles Examiner, meant
when he said, "'Turk Prujansky
can fill any major league stadium
with all the people he knows."
Great to see Charles "Chuckie"
Chudler, who . played shortstop
on my State championship softball
team over 40 years ago (we used
to play with 10 men on a team).
Dr. Jack Jackman insisted upon
my getting glasses because I didn't
recognize him right away. Jack
played ball against me at Codd
Field, could never get a hit off
my pitching, and now comes to
listen to my hits—song hits that is.
"Saucy Sylvia" Stoun is at the
place to render a few of her won-
derful songs. She is one of the
greats in this or any other town,
and is now appearing at the Royal
Ascot Lounge on Southfield and
Fort in Lincoln Park. It's a big
kick hearing the Billy Rose Trio
singing my theme song. "I Love
You, I Love You" which practical-
ly everyone coming into Angel's
is either singing or whistling. A
top highlight of my stay here was
watching the beautiful expression
on the lovely face of Danny Rus-
kin's 85-year-old mother. Mrs. Min-
nie Raskin. when I sing - My Yid-
dishe Mama."

As my good friend Jimmy Dur-
ante would say, "I've got a mil-
lion of 'em!" Well, maybe not a
million, but so many wonderful
friends here in Detroit.
After being away from my home
town these past three years, I am
thrilled and honored to see the

MOSCOW — T w o controversial
novels, one of them anti-Zionist
and anti-Semitic, were attacked by
Pravd a, the Community Party
newspaper, as "ideologically vici-
ous and artistically weak."
However, Pravda's criticism of
the novels, "In the Name of the
Father and of the Son" and "Love
and Hate," by Ivan Shevtsov, was
based not on any anti-Zionism but
on the author's concentration "on
depicting all kinds of morally ugly
types and crooks."
Shevtsov, relatively unknown
until the publication a few
months ago of his controversial
work, portrays Soviet 'writers
and artists and Soviet youth as
dupes of Western plans to sub-
vert Russia's cultural develop-
ment.
Liberal literary observers, v•ho
were outraged by his writings, felt
that the Pravda attack would
seriously jeopardize Shevtsov's
chances of having similar books
published here in the future. The
Soviet intellectuals were particu-
larly angered by suggestions in the
book that they could use an in-
fusion of Stalin-era patriotism.

On my way to work one evening,
I stopped in at the Apartment
Lounge to see my old barber and
dear friend Ray Bressler, who
wasn't in, but the music of a won-
derful trio called Vince Manse
was well worth the visit. Milton
Berle called me from California
and when I asked him how his
brother Frank was, he said, "Not
a cent!" Comedy star Marty Allen,
appearing at the Top Hat in
Windsor, called to say "I came to
this area at the wrong time. You've
got all our people!"

I'll only be here another week,
but hope to be back for Danny's
testimonial, Oct. 13. Forgive me
if I've left your name out. It
would take me a year to put down
all the names of those coming into
Angel's Hour Glass. But remem-
ber, as my song goes, "I Love
You, I Love You!"
