Cahan, associate rabbi at Adas Shalom Synagogue since 1965, and his wife Liz will be held 8 p.m. Monday at Adas Sha- lom Synagogue. Rabbi Cahan is leaving to be- come spiritual leader of Temple Beth Abraham in Oakland, Calif., a 600-family congregation which is the only Conservative congrega- tion in Oakland and the largest in the Bay area. Prior to coming to Adas Shalom, Rabbi Cahan served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, While in Detroit, he has served as acting chairman of FAIR, Inc., a group devoted to furthering housing integration Bonds Bought at Emergency Rally Rabbis' Council of America Elects Detroit Rabbi VP The Rabbinical Council of Amer- ica elected Rabbi James I. Gor- don of the Young Israel Center of Oak-Woods as vice president of the organization at its recent con- vention. In his acceptance ad- dress, Rabbi Gordon appealed to President Nixon to take forceful action to counter the expansionary Russian presence in the Middle East. "This is no longer a case of verbal bellicosity," Rabbi Gor- don warned, "nor merely the role of a generous arms provider. We actually have Russian pilots fly- ing operating missions in the in- terior of Egypt who are in a state of continuous combat readiness." Rabbi Gordon added, "We would be tragically myopic not to see that Soviet Russia is about to conquer the entire Middle East, to bring it under its hegemony, an age-old aspiration of Russian czars for centuries." At the Israel Bond emergency rally held at Bull' David Syna- gogue, resulting in $45,000 in Israel Bond cash sales are (from left) seated: Joseph Holtzman, Israel Bond emergency cash chairman; Bella Goldberg, piano accompanist who left this week to settle in Israel; Eric Rosenow, orchestra leader who performed on the piano; standing, Jan and Lillian Bart, guest artists; Max Sosin, president of Bnai David, who acted as MC; Gloria Kleihman who played the violin; and Louis E. Youth Interest in Israel Seen Including New Left TEL AVIV, ('JTA)—The World Zionist Organization is making substantial headway in recruiting new members, especially in the 25-45 age group, according to Abraham Shenker, head of the Jew- ish Agency's absorption depart- ment. Shenker, returning from a three- month visit to North and South America and Europe, predicted that the movement will have a membership of 1,000,000 by the time it elects delegates to the next Zionist Congress. He claimed there was mounting interest in Israel and Zionism among younger people, including Jewish youth of the New Left who, he concluded are convinced it has become a tool against Israel and Jews and are therefore joining the Zionist Organization. ewish_National Fund 6 • CA UN 4 HIGH HOLIDAY TOURS ROSH HASHONO, YOM KIPPUR & SUCCOS TOURS An Excitingly Different Tour to ISRAEL Sept. 27 to Oct. 25 All Inclusive FOR THE UNATTACHED Regular 2 & 3 Week Tours Leav- ing every Sun. & $711400 up Mon. from For Brochure and Full Details See Your Travel Agent — OR — SINGER TRAVEL For further information and our complete summer program, call or write MIZRACHI TOURS 9118 LIBERTY RD.
