Furniture Dealer Lloyd Weingarden Active in Area

Lloyd Weingarden a furniture
dealer who was a leader in Jewish
activities, died July 5 at age 70.
Mr. Weingarden, 25660 South-
field, Southfield, was founder and
president of Lloyd's Patio Furni-
ture and Hardware Co. at 15430
Fenkell for 31 years, and at 24225
Orchard Lake, Farmington. He was

Craftsman Lodge of the Masons,

KALAMAZOO—Morris Markin
president of this country's small-
est, full-scale automobile company,
died Tuesday at age 77.
Mr. Markin was president of
Checker Motors Corp. of Kalama-
zoo maker of taxis and souped-up
family cars. The company made
only 5,000 vehicles a year, but was
known for reliability.
A native of Russia, Mr. Markin
was so poor when he arrived in
the U.S. in 1913, an Ellis Island

Morris Markin, 77, of Checker Motors

ANNARBOR—Dr. Mario Schtein-
gart of Buenos Aires, the former
president of Bnai Brith in Argen-
tina, died in the University of
Michigan Hospital July 5 at age
77.
A member of the Academy of
Medicine in Argentina, Dr. Schtein-
gart was a specialist in endocrinolo-
gy and also a member of the board
of governors of Hebrew University
in Jerusalem.

NEWARK—Jerry Nusbaum, wri-
ter of the "Personally Speaking"
column of the Newark Star-Ledger
died July 5 at age 86.
Mr. Nusbaum who began writing
obituaries in 1907 for the Newark
Evening Star, started his daily
column in 1934. From 1924 to 1934,
he was city editor of the Newark
Morning Ledger.
