President Sees Grave Mid East

Danger, Pledges Aid to Israel

President Nixon, in his televised interview with three
commentators, Wednesday night, conceded that the Middle
East "represents a greater danger than the Southeast Asia
situation because it involves a collision of superpowers."
He pledged assistance to Israel to assure a balance of
power. Contrasting the Arab and Israel positions, he em-
phasized that Israel does not wish to push the Arab nations
into the sea, a threat that is leveled at Israel.
An optimistic note was sounded at the United Nations
Wednesday with a declaration of "a substantial move for-
ward" in the direction of peace. Russia was seen favoring
"a formal state of peace" even if it is to be without a peace
treaty.

Aliva Increase Seen From Lands of Affluence

tEL AVIV (ZINS)—Some 40 per cent of the 100,000 immigrants
1who arrived in Israel since the Six-Day War have come from countries
of affluence. Many of them made a significant contribution to the devel-
opment of Israel's electronic and armaments industries, according to
Minister Leon Dultzin speaking at a meeting of Tel Aviv's Industrial
Club.
Dultzin believes there will be 50,000 new immigrants this year,
of whom 9- to 10,000 are expected from the U.S.A. The minister
emphasized that an increase in the number of Ame r i can ohm is
dependent upon the extent to which dwellings can be provided for
the newcomers.
It is significant, he added, that of the thousands of prospective
immigrants, not one has seen fit to change his mind for reasons of
personal safety or security.

Soviet Automotive 'Gift' Welcomed by Israelis

Prujansky

JERUSALEM (ZINS)—For the average Soviet citizen, owning an
automobile is an impossible dream, but Israelis may now buy Soviet
automotive equipment to their heart's content.
There are thousands of vehicles—pick-ups, trucks, jeeps and pas-
senger vehicles—which Moscow originally put at the disposal of Egypt
but that fell into the hands of Israel's army during the Six-Day
War.
Until recently, the Israel government held these vehicles in 'dead
storage, but now decided to liquidate the "inventory" and place it on
the local civilian market for cash.
