for the development of the Golan
Heights has been approved by the
planning authority of the ministry
of agriculture. The plan provides

been established, with two more on
the Heights and one in the Buteka
Valley belov, scheduled for this
year.
The Jewish National Fund has
reclaimed over 12,500 acres of
land for the settlements on the
Golan Heights since the Six-Day
War and will ameliorate an aver-
age of 6,250 acres annually during
the coming years. A total of 50,000
acres have been marked as suit-
able for reclamation.
According to the plan, 938
acres of potatoes will be planted,
750 acres of vineyards specializing
in grapes to be processed into ex-
port wines, 500 acres of citrus and
subtropical fruits and smaller areas
of plums, olives and walnuts. Ex-
perts predict that eventually fruit
will be a major crop on the
Heights.
Each settlement will have a herd
of 1,000 head of cattle and raise
turkeys. Between 1,500 and 2,000
tons of turkey meat are expected
to be exported annually. In areas
which cannot be cultivated or used
for pasture, the JNF will have
planted close to 100,000 saplings
by the end of the year.

Educators' Assembly
'orms Michigan Region
With Sidney Selig Head

The Educators Assembly, at its
18th annual convention at the Con-
cord Hotel, announced the estab-
lishment of several new local re-
gions, including a Michigan region.
Sidney Selig, educational director
of Cong. Beth Shalom, was desig-
nated president of the Michigan
region.
Some 475 delegates from across
the country participated in an ex-
change of ideas on the theme
"Jewish Education in the Seven-
ties: Challenge and Promise."
Resolutions adopted by the Edu-
cators Assembly included one that
the Educators Assembly request
the United Synagogue to approve
at its forthcoming convention cer-
tain minimum standards for all
affiliated congregations employ-
ing Educators Assembly members.
Another measure adopted was
that the Educators Assembly, in
order to face the crisis of person-
nel in the field of Jewish educa-
tion, call upon the United Syna-
gogue "to recognize the assembly
and its regions as agents of the
profession for the purpose of im-
plementation on a collective bar-
gaining basis, of basic principles
governing the employment and
status of all educators in its af-
filiated congregations and day
schools."
