Meadow Brook Best Buy
for New Music Festival
Compared with other summer
music festivals of equal renown
such as Tanglewood, Blossom and
R avini a, Oakland University's
Meadow Brook Music Festival,
which. opened it seventh season
June 25, is again offering the most
attractive box office prices.
Despite the current inflation-re-
cession climate, Meadow Brook
concertgoers may still enjoy any
one of its 34 performances for less
than the cost of a first run movie
downtown. Other festivals charge
as much as $10.50 for a special
concert while Meadow Brook's top
price remains at $4 for Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday evenings and
$5 for the Jazz-Folk Friday evening
concerts. The $5 and $4 seats are
in the covered Baldwin Pavilion.
Coupon Books ($25 value for
$20) help make Meadow Brook-
going inexpensive and completely
flexible.
MICHAEL JEROME KWIKER,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A.
Kwiker of Penington Dr. received
his degree of doctor of osteopathy
at commencement exercises of the
College of Osteopathic Medicine
and Surgery in Des Moines, June
4. The Jewish News regrets the
omission of Mrs. Kwiker's name in
the announcement last week.

through the center of this succulen
little devil was a generous amoun
of Danish blue cheese . . . You
could see it, smell it and, best of
all, you could taste it.
A TOURIST IN CHINA watched
as three prominent Chinese were
being buried . . . As the first cas-
ket was lowered, several Chinese
women came forward, placing
chickens, rice, bread and wine on
the coffin . . . "What's that for?"
asked the visitor . . . "That is our
custom," answered one of the
mourners, "so that the body of the
dead man will not go hungry." .. .
The same procedure was followed
when the second casket was low-
ered . . . When the third was low-
ered only a single cup of rice was
placed on it . . "Say," muttered
the stranger, "how come they put
such a little bit of food on that
coffin?" . . . The China m an
shrugged. "That was Sing Lee. He
was on a diet."
ONE MILE OF superhighway
looks much like another, and with
the restaurant chains using the
same floor plan in each establish-
ment, it's hard to remember just
where you are . . . But a family
that had breakfast, lunch and din-
ner in three such turnpike restau-
rants didn't realize how confused
one member was getting . . . As
Merle and Annette Stern walked
into the restaurant for dinner, some
500 miles from the one where they
had breakfasted, their four-year-
old son Gary exclaimed in bewil-
derment, "We've been traveling all
day, and here we are again!"

'TURK PRUJANSKY is in Detroit
. . . The fabulous Turk, noted from
coast to coast as celebrity to the
celebrities, will do a limited pack
'em in engagement, opening this
Monday at Angel's Hour Glass on
W. McNichols, six blocks west of
Southfield . . . Producer, director,
impressario, composer, author,
supreme host, etc. ... that's Turk,
whose six-foot-one stature of mag-
netic personality includes a rich
baritone voice with which to sing
his own compositions . . . If past
performances by Turk are any in-
dication, Angel's and the entire
area around Six Mile Rd. and
Southfield will really be jumping!
A GOOD EATING spot is not one
that gets new customers . . . but a
place where the people come back.
. . That's the reputation being
built up by John Carmona at his
little Tacorama Mexican eatery on
W. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale, just
west of Woodward.
TRY THE EGGPLANT Parme-
san at Provincial House on W. 10
Mile Rd., just east of Evergreen.
. . . This delicacy is among a fine
selection of good food at the popu-
lar northwest eatery ... They have
fried ice cream, too!
SAMMY LIEBERMAN at Ra-
leigh House Catering is still going
great guns . . . No such thing as
trying to match Sammy's superb
offerings . . . And with all the
commercial work Sammy's been
doing, the Raleigh House standbys
are in no way being neglected .. .
which is why choice dates are al-
ways made available for weddings,
bar mitzvahs, etc.
FRANK SIDNEY AND his or-
chestra open a one week stand
this Monday at the Cabaret La-
Boheme atop Hotel Pontchartrain.

Orchestra Leaders Association and
features "singing saxaphones" and
vocalist Jeanne Rand . . . with a
subdued (no amps) type of dance
music that includes pops, stand-
ards, novelties, waltzes, rhumbas
and tangos.

Israelis Say They Lack
Aid Asked by Cambodia
TEL AVIV—Cambodian govern-
ment requests of Israel for mili-
tary aid will not be met, a foreign
ministry official said here.
"We have like other govern-
ments, been approached by Cam-
bodian authorities for military
supplies, including equipment for
their MIG aircraft," the spokes-
man said.
"We have had to turn down their
request since we do not have the
material they are asking for."
