Mentally Retarded and Problem Learners
to Be Enrolled in Mishkan. Israel Program

At graduation exercises of the
Mishkan Israel Lubavitcher Center
Religious School, Rabbi Yitschak
M. Kagan, director of education,
announced a new class for "slow"
and "problem" learners, including
mentally retarded, to begin in
September.
Pupils will meet twice or three
times per week and will be in-

structed by teachers qualified in
the field of special education.
Children in this program will be
from varied "disturbance back-
grounds"—such as emotional, per-
ceptual, coordination and maturity
problems, as well as mental re-
tardation. They will be instructed
in Hebrew reading, Sidur familiar-
ity, holidays, laws and customs

It is planned to continue this
special education course at higher
levels of learning until the pupils
are fully prepared for Bar Mitzva
requirements.
The Mishkan Israel School,
entering its second decade, offers
a five-year Hebrew school pro-
gram. Subjects include Hebrew
reading and writing, Sidur trans-
lation, Sidur familiarity, Humash
(Bible), laws and customs, holi-
days and festivals, Jewish philo-
sophy, Jewish history and Judaic
literature.
Other departments are a Sunday
school, Bar Mitzva course and a
post-Bar Mitzva rabbi's class I
and rabbi's class II.
At the graduation ceremonies
school director Mrs. Lilian Green-
wald and other members of the
school board—Mrs. Sarah Sandles,
Mrs. Ida Wargon and Rabbi Jacob
N. Kranz—distributed graduation
diplomas to Allen Brody, Gail
Bronstein, Jay Cimmer, Andrew
Collen, Tova Dorfman, Lee Glass,
Myles Koby, Lisa Kurtz, Charles
Lechner, Jonathan Pollack, Mark
Sherman, Stbart Weinstock and
Leonard Zucker.
