BACK IN NOVEMBER 1968, Dr

Bruce Danto founded the Suicide
Prevention Center, a nonprofit,
extremely dedicated endeavor by
Bruce to help others live . . . In
the first year, he had over 3,000
phone calls, and of this amount
only five actually committed sui-
cide . . . It works much like Alco-
holics Anonymous, with people
crying out for help (nobody really
wants to commit suicide, says Dr.
Danto) . . He is allowed a mini-
mal amount of money for himself
and two workers .. . All advertis-
ing, literature, etc. comes out of
his own pocket or from donations.
